Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ

A Fresh Start

I'm new to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, and am honored to be accepted not just as a member but as an author. I already have two of my books listed, so thank you for whoever listed those. Now I have a confession to make -- I have no idea what the heck I'm doing! I mean yes, that applies to my life as a whole, but also specifically to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and to my current situation as an author and reader. You see, I have a new e-novel coming out on March 1st, if I may be so bold as to drop a plug for it, "God Wars: Living with Angels," it will be available on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com and Omnilit.com. Partly because I'm a fairly unknown author, and partly because of the current state of the publishing industry, authors like me are expected to do all their own marketing, getting reviews, promoting the book, doing book trailers, SEO, social networking, new website, new facebook site, all things which, at the age of 53, I'm a little green at. Okay, I made myself laugh with that one: "a little green at?" How about I'm as green as a four-leaf clover (fitting since I'm an Irish Canadian)!!!

So I'm frantically putting together and simultaneously implementing my marketing plan and suffice it to say that I've made a ton of mistakes already and I would not be totally shocked if I make a ton more mistakes as the panic level grows higher the closer the publication date creeps. Damn, the publisher hasn't even given me an ARC (advanced reading copy) for reviewers yet!!!

Okay, I'll take a deep, slow breath now, little light headed, beads of perspiration forming on my upper lip, my graying, thinning hair getting grayer and thinner by the second

Okay, I think the panic attack has passed. What I really wanted to say here is that I'm honored to be on this board, I hope I live up to whatever expectations there are of members and authors, and I hope that I do not cross any more lines than I already have in my zeal and panic.

Thanks for having me, guys and gals!

Bryan Thomas Schmidt Take it a step at a time. First rule of social media is to be social. Show as much or more interest in others as you expect to get back. Beyond that, network, set up a blog tour. See about going on Twitter intv shows, find book review sites, etc. It will be a slow build in most cases, but it establishes a long term fan/friend base who will support you, and if you're in this for the long haul, that's the most important thing. Good luck and welcome to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.
