I haven't been able to find a bookseller/bookstore that actually has a release date for Thorn of Emberlain. I think the August date is a false one that some Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Librarian put in the book record page aspirationally.

It's not listed anywhere on his publisher's website, either.

Kate (Feathered Turtle Press Reviews) Love the Goblin Emperor and Murderbot Diaries!

TMR Really need to catch up on my own sci-fi novels haha, these upcoming releases all sound so good.

Hmm, yes I was afraid that was the case. The dates have disappeared from the book's GR page, and bookdepository says 656 days from release, which is 31. December 2022... Guess it's another announcement that can't be trusted, like the last times this has happened... Wish there was a definite date. Such a shame if it's not true, I've been really looking forward to the book, as you can probably tell lol.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude Fab list, I have my eye on half of these including the fabulous MURDERBOT!!!

BUT, Leviathan Falls seems to be available from Oct or Nov depending on where you look/if you are looking for the hardback or ebook, but the book itself doesn't have a proper synopsis yet. I'm hoping it does actually release this year and doesn't roll over to 2022.

I can´t even count how many release dates have been floating around the internet coming and going. As long as there is no official statement for release, I would not trust any of them.

message 8: by Elyse (new)

Elyse I perked up a smidge for Thorn of Emberlain but did not truly believe it and alas, it is false. Much like Doors of Stone and Winds of Winter, we may never see the book. But I do still have hope for Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. And am thrilled for Leviathan Falls which does have a real date of Nov 16, 2021! I'm only on Cibola Burn but I have time. I did not enjoy Goblin Emperor, maybe it was just the audiobook. Always excited for a new Murderbot! I haven't read any of the others but they are on my reading list! I would like to read The Wayfarers series this year.

Thing is, we know that Scott has at least completed a draft, he showed it off on a twitter post sometime last year with a "look what I've got..." type post. So presumably it's in editing hell at some stage. But if it's got that far, there's at least some ray of hope!

Cybil The original version of this story included Scott Lynch's The Thorn of Emberlain. However, the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ data on this book has changed. We are following up with the publisher to clarify the publication date. We apologize for the confusion.

message 14: by Janet (new)

Janet Martin "Big scifi and fantasy series?" More than half of these are only 2nd volumes, and a couple are so far spread out from v1 that they can only be considered "sequels," and not v2 of "big series." Another has book 3 following a short story of 43 pages, and a short novella--I think it would be generous to call that bk 2.

How about the "new to the series?" question. So one is to read all of the series, ie book 1, before getting started. These are books I'm excited to hear about, although the most exciting title has already been deleted. I plan to read read most of this list and I'm happy to see them promoted. But please keep the headline real. Little is more annoying than hyperbole--save that for the publisher blurbs.

"Big" as in significance and reach, not length.

Please, please, read the actual annotation for The Witness for the Dead, and you'll learn that it's not Maya's "living far from the Court", but Celehar, who had helped Maya in the 1st book.

Sallie The Wayfarer series is really beautiful, subtle, exciting, atmospheric, let it take you there. How can a book series be all of these things? Well, I'm telling you it is so. Go sink into it all.

I was referring to "series," too. Two books do not make a series unless it is clearly intended to be one and stated by the author. For instance, the sequel to The Golem and the Jinni is showing up 8 years after--is #3 even planned? And will that make a trilogy instead of a series? Naomi Novik has a history of writing series, so I would expect #2, published only a year after #1, A Deadly Education, to be followed by #3--a legitimate series. When The Goblin Emperor was published in 2014, fans were screaming for a sequel, but at that time Addison stated it was to be freestanding--I'm quite delighted to see #2, and hope for #3, but again, unless there is clear intent, it doesn't qualify as a "series." Mark Lawrence has a history of writing trilogies, in a related world--a trilogy is not a series, so we'll see about this one.

Gerald Cacas And still the KingKiller book 3 is nowhere to be found. 😪

message 26: by Greg (new)

Greg Louderback I've read every book that Naomi Novik books except one. Deadly Education was very enjoyable & I've put in a purchase request to my Library to order the 2nd book The Last Graduate. My library is part of a consortium that covers the mid-south & mideastern part of Ohio and will be listed in the digital library system for all of them. They have all of her published works in hardback on the shelves. I follow many other great authors and I've been able to get their books as well. I've been a member of the library going on 50 years and long as a book isn't over 3 years old from release, they've gotten every book I've put in a purchase request for. Join your local library and they have a purchase request forms you can fill out to request new releases. I'm not saying that every member will be as successful as me, but let them get to know you and it'll help. I went to school with several of the library heads which may have given me a leg up but you have to start somewhere. The Authors make more in commissions for hardbound and this helps them to be able to write more books📚

Steven Doors of Stone will never see the light of day! I wish he would gracefully fade away and stop the ongoing dribble of posts, blogs, etc.

Will Byrnes Loved The Golem and the Jinni. Am very much looking forward to the long-awaited sequel.

message 29: by Vetta (new)

Vetta I am really looking forward to "Leviathan Falls" , and. of course, the latest in the amazing Murderbot series!

message 30: by Ruth Anne (new)

Ruth Anne I enjoyed "The Golem and the Jinni" so much it zoomed into "favorite book" status.

I was so thrilled to hear the sequel was finally about to be released that I pre-ordered on amazon.

I expect it will be just as delightful as the first.

Sadly, it's been so long and Lynch has regularly updated his blog etc with his life events, marriage, moving states, etc. I suspect he's lost his mojo with the story, and if/when he picks it up again, it won't be the same.
