Allan Langdale Yes, same book. I first experienced this book as a book on tape, read by Bryson himself. It was just fantastic. I liked it so much I wanted to go thro鈥辞谤别Yes, same book. I would say that it's still my favorite travel book by Bryson. You learn so much about this unique country's history, geology, politics, and natural history; and yet it's so much fun to read. Reading this book inspired me to write my own travel book. (less)

The book was written in 2001. Will we find it "outdated" if we read it in 2017? Thanks.

Stacy I just recently completed it (this summer), and I don't recall thinking the novel was outdated. It's basically his experience of traveling the country with various factual content mixed in. There isn't a lot of reference to time or "pop culture" if you will. (less)

No mention of koala bears? As much as he wrote about all kinds of 鈥渃ritters鈥�, he didn鈥檛 mention this one and barely mentioned kangaroos and dingos. Or did I somehow miss this part (listened to the audiobook)?

I haven't read this book, but really enjoyed Bryson's Walk in the Woods (read it three times, actually). How does this compare? Is it as funny as WitW? Funnier? Different?

Yes it's exactly the same book. Can any of you tell me if Mr Bryson has written a book which delves into the Native American Indian. Because all I see in his books is flabby titted, hung over Indians? Yet he cannot notice that the Aborigines in Darwin, Australia had been long grassing and where hung over?
