Uneducated--maybe, naive, easily led, gullible, yes, but probably also, desperate, as was Jurgis and his Lithuanian family. Using an encompassing adjective such as "stupid" is pure racial prejudice--reinforcing the prevailing opinion. If this is an example of the "ethnic flavor" that had to be censored in later editons, then I suggest more censorship might be in order, (less)

After finishing Bioshock Infinite, I've once again become interested in the pre-WW1 era of the US. Not sure why that is, may be it's because the time period is just the right amount of white supremacy sentiments towards African-Americans, the Chinese and other non-white non-Americans, as well as the first glimmer of mass-consumerism. Bearing that in mind, is this the ideal book to further that knowledge? Thanks!
