Did not realize how spirtual this would be. Might have to get a copy to reread whenever....in whole or in pieces parts. Glad to see I am reading these three (Gilead, Home and then Lila in the right order). Now for the question....Where does Housekeeping fit in the picture?

I prefer this picture for reading order: Home, Gilead, Lila. and Housekeeping can be anywhere among, before ot after them!(less)

This is one of the more difficult books I have ever read. If it wasn't for it's home on my treadmill, I would not be almost finished. I have read difficult and philosophical books before, but his reflections, the narrator, are exhausting. It is good writing and does give a window into a totally different reality than this place and time. Oh, but why so arduous and repetitive?

Take my thought here for what it's worth, but I think the repetition comes from the style of narration she is employing. That is, her story is told through an aging minister trying to collect his own personal history, his spirituality and wisdom and pass them on to his son. He collects these over a considerable amount of time, and he seems to be organizing his thoughts more topically than chronologically. So he switches between time periods in the life of his grandfather, father and godson. In doing so, there has to be some repetition, and he even returns to the same event with different concerns. I found the narration a little awkward at first, but by the end I must say I grew to appreciate it.(less)

I am currently listening to this and am getting bored. It seems repetitive. Should I continue? Is it worth it?

Elizabeth I understand it could be boring for some but slow down and don't read it for a plot. I learned a lot reading like I was trying to know more about the â€¦m´Ç°ù±ðI understand it could be boring for some but slow down and don't read it for a plot.
