I mean no disrespect and still I'm at a loss: why, all those years ago, was I introduced to Milan Kundera before Bohumil Hrabal?

If you compare translations of Czech authors into English, Kundera is the second most translated (first is Karel ÄŒapek) and Hrabal is only at the 9th place. Probably because his texts are much more bound to the Czech language and therefore more difficult to translate. And I would personally say that Kundera is much more easy to read and understand. In the French translation I read, I found two or three times the sentence "the two are not human" (les deux ne sont pas humains), which I had troubles to understand in the context, and a couple of more times "the skies are not human" (les cieux ne sont pas humains), which is much more understandable. Considered the similarity between "deux" and "cieux", is it a problem of the translation?
