*This is a standalone high school romance.*

Dirty.

That’s what I am.

Born a dirty little secret and later sold to the worst kind of evil.

That day broke me, stealing the most sacred parts of my body and my soul. So I ran—from them, from home, from everything.

That’s when I found him. He became my savior before he even knew I existed.

And then I was welcomed into the family.

Now he sees me. I make sure of it.

I notice the way he watches me when I slip from my bed and fall into someone else’s. See the heated flicker in his eyes when I peer up at him from behind red solo cups, wandering hands, and blaring music. Feel the burn in his touch when I stumble and he catches me—and he always catches me.

But I’m no longer the same weak girl he discovered hiding behind his house all those years ago, and some demons simply can’t be set free. All the lies in the world can’t hide that.

Even though the same blood doesn’t run through our veins, I know he can never be mine.

I was never supposed to fall for him.

We’re family now, and I’m going to be a good little sister.

Liar, liar, liar.

'LIAR LIAR:' Is a full length 'High School Romance' novel by new to me author 'T.L. Martin.' Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

I was tagged to read this book and I’m so glad I took that plunge and one clicked this, because 'Lair Liar,' was so unexpectedly good, unique and utterly compelling. I read this in record time, and was beyond hooked as soon as I started. After closing off that last page I really hope this author gives us Eva's cousins story, we got a little bit of a taste, but his character was shrouded in so much mystery I'm intrigued.

Get ready to meet Easton and Eva, their story is beautifully broken, and will cement yourself to them wholeheartedly. Eva's story was heartbreaking, shocking, clouded with deceit and horror at with what she endured at such a young age was a nightmare that no child or adult should ever have to go through.

Both these characters were crying out to be seen, by peers who should know better and by each of them themselves.

Eva's life changed dramatically at the age of thirteen, and it was at this point where she would forever be looking over her shoulder. Her life isn't an easy story to read its dark and oh so sad, but through it all she stays resilient doing whatever she can to get by.

Easton our hero made me fall at his feet effortlessly, he was gentle and protective, good to the core and always looking out for Eva. Following her everywhere with his eyes. And it wasn't too long after that his heart followed.

"I'll follow you anywhere."
This was good, you guys! REALLY good!

Plot in a nutshell: After a traumatic childhood and an even more traumatic event at 13, Eva ends up living on the streets. A year later, through a twist of fate, she's adopted into an affluent, but messed up family . . . where she meets her very aloof stepbrother, Easton.

The story begins three years later with Eva drowning in shame and self-destructive behavior, and carrying a torch for her forbidden stepbrother.
I'm not a good person. I haven't earned a good life. But Easton isn't like me. He's good and genuine, and he deserves so much more than what his parents offer him.
But Eva isn't alone in her feelings, they also torture Easton.
I know it's sick, this fixation I have on her. It's fucking exhausting too.
These two were pretty great together! Dancing around each other, pushing, prodding at the boundaries . . . and I loved the way the story unfolded, with the author giving the reader little pieces until the complete picture came into view.
I saw her that night, really fucking saw her, and no matter how many Solo cups or strangers' hands she hides behind, I'll always see her.
You'll need to be careful with this one; there are quite a few TRIGGERS. In fact, much of this heartbreaking story centers around Eva's journey toward self love and care . . .
That slippery word - deserving - cloaks me in silk, its texture soothing and desirable.
. . . and Easton's role in her life.
"You always have a choice."
Gah, there were so many incredible scenes in Liar Liar, scenes that will have your emotions at a full boil. The writing was incredible throughout.

I can't round up though because I felt that under all the emotion, there were aspects of the story that didn't quite add up. But that's just me and my fixation on the small details. I'm sure the vast majority of you will LOVE this! I highly recommend.

Thanks to Melanie A. and her vigorous updates this book caught my eye. I enjoyed this.

'In another life, he might do more than just look.
In another life, we might even talk.
But this is reality, and reality is a ho.
Easton and I are so far from equals we aren’t even on the same planet. Everyone knows respectable boys date respectable girls, and respectable girls don’t get propositioned by their teachers. Respectable girls don’t have the reputation I’ve gone out of my way to earn over these past three years.
But mostly, respectable girls don’t fantasize about their brother.'

Evangeline/Eva's (17), life has been filled with dread and horror which has wiped her innocence of childhood. Unable to trust anyone, her vulnerabilities held tight behind her walls she suffers immencely. With this she finds a get-away from this harsh realities by a saviour who protects and understands her.
Easton (18), steals our heart from the beginning. He is of such a pure heart and a protector. He is a good boy who seeks his workaholic parents attention.

'My fingers itch with the need to run through the tousled waves of his dark hair. There’s something still boyish about his face even though he’s the size of an NFL linebacker. Easy, gentle. It’s the kind of face that could make a girl spill all of her secrets without ever realizing he’d stolen them. But as much as he embodies nonchalance, anyone paying attention can see how attentive he really is.'

Easton and Eva have been always attracted to each other but Eva being the adoptive child held them back. Easton has always protected and looked after Eva. He is easy, gentle and kind, he is determined to save the girl who is about to destroy her life when she is hurt.

'Evangeline, the girl I used to be, would have already flown this coop, picked up the pieces, and found a new abysmal existence. But Eva . . . she lies here, idly passing time, until she can see a boy who showed her what it’s like to be wanted. To belong.'

Sometimes Eva's actions seems childish. Easton is the perfect son with his perfect girlfriend and Eva she puts up an image of ho in the school. While she does rash things on whim she is also smart. She is scared of her past and she knows it's going to catch up to her again.
There are dramas, secrets, tragedy. Easton is one of my favourite hero, his gentleness in helping Eva and putting her broken parts together really makes me awe to him. This is a dark romance and I recommend it.

Trigger Warning

Finally I’m out of my book slump. LIKE FINALLLLY!!!!!!

Plot
13 year old Eva’s world turned upside down when her father sold her to pay off his debt. In order to survive she ran away from her buyer and survived in The Pitts doing whatever she could to survive. Until one day she was found in front of the house of a rich family and was taken into their care. There she met her step brother Easton who was too good for the world.

For three years Easton kept his distance from Eva because of his mother. But he always watched her from afar, wishing it was him she would confide in, smile at and be with. Until one day just watching Eva isn’t enough for Easton anymore and no matter how much he tries to ignore Eva, she would still find a way to get under his skin.

This is a SLOW burn romance novel about healing, family issues and moving on.

Also let me just warn you, the sexual tension is going to KILLLLLL YOU! When I was reading the book I was getting annoyed every time the “DEED didn’t happen between Easton and Eva but after finishing the book, I understand why they took their time. I mean I understood then also but my Hormonal side took charge and tied my sensible side to a chair. So....

This was my first buddy read and it was a pleasure doing it with you Audrey!!

I had a rocky start with it, I didn’t get why the heroine wanted to build such a bad reputation for herself during the first 15% of the book... But then... the real, deep, stormy and dark plot started and I loved it.

We’ve got the H, who has such a good heart and wants to do everything in the right way, and we have the h who is... strong and badass but at the same time is damaged and unsure of the world and the people in it.

The plot touched very sensitive subjects, so please read the triggers before you go ahead if you want to read it. But the author handled every topic very well, letting the rawness exposed but really dueling on it, if you know what I mean... it was beautifully written.

Still there were some bits that didn’t make sense for me towards the end, and I found how it all unraveled by the end very convenient and too big of a thing. That’s why I didn’t give it the 5 stars, but it was a great book and I would recommend it to anyone who’s not put off by the story!

Wow, did this book ever blow me out of the water. I’ve been reading a lot (and I mean, A LOT) of angsty new adult books this past year, and I was getting a little worried that I’ve become jaded of them, since the last few I’ve read have been a four star read at best. But then I read this one.
It’s deliciously angsty, yet never over the top. Eva has such a tragic backstory, one revealed in flashbacks, but she’s an incredibly strong heroine. The author fights some tropes with this heroine, in the sense that she isn’t the virginal wallflower that we see A LOT in these types of books. She’s tough, snarky, and driven. But she’s far from undamaged, and that’s what makes her such a compelling character.
Easton is a fabulous hero. We get to see animosity between him and Eva in the beginning of the book. It’s not quite a bully romance, because he essentially just ignores her. Again, he doesn’t fit the cookie-cutter mold of new adult athlete characters. He has a lot of depth, a career that he’s compelled to explore regardless of his parents disappointment, and he isn’t a player I absolutely loved watching Easton and Eva’s story unfold, and there are quite a few bits that were so darn cute that they had me gushing (orange juice, anyone?)
Highly recommend this book to fans of the genre--just go into it cognizant of the trigger warnings.

“The one who stole it from me. The one who broke me. The one who told me what I was and what I was going to be. He took everything that night. And he’s owned me ever since.

Liar Liar by T. L. Martin is a dark standalone high school romance which is not for the fainthearted. Whilst high on drama and angst, the story of Easton and Eva is actually quite beautiful. What begins as something tragic and harrowing is followed by the realisation of a deep connection between them. From incredibly heart-breaking and violent beginnings to a wildly passionate love story of survival. Liar Liar is intensely emotional and upsetting, yet it has a beating heart filled with love against the odds.

‘Everyone knows how this story ends. Because bad men don’t meet Karma. And bad girls don’t get their happily ever afters.

We were immediately grabbed by Liar Liar, our hearts breaking from the first page and throughout the story, as moments of sheer horror come to light. Filled with secrets, twists and high drama it kept us on tenterhooks as we followed Eva’s story from age 13, when her world changed. When life knocks you down onto your knees in the most brutal of ways, you build a shield to protect yourself and expect disappointment and bad behaviour, as if you deserve it or know of nothing else. When you protect yourself with the ‘I don’t give a toss attitude it’s often because the fragility of the heart needs to remain hidden. Eva’s attitude was fierce, sassy and coated in strength, however, she was incredibly vulnerable, scared and in need of positive human contact and protection. We loved her, rooted for her, and needed her to find love and peace of heart.

‘Easton isn’t just someone I want. He’s the solid ground beneath my feet.

The strength of the relationship between Easton and Eva was both lovely and full of hope, despite the gritty and raw surface appearance. Easton was a wonderful character. Sweet, strong, determined and a natural-born protector. He was guided by love and determination to save the girl who hid by his house. He never took his eyes off of her. Easton was written in such a refreshing way that he stole our hearts, this boy was genuine, a pure soul who loved without abandonment. He hadn’t had it easy either and he recognised the darkness, the hurt and the broken parts of Eva.

‘Stunning. Unbreakable. Two words I never thought would be associated with me, and yet he says them with such conviction I almost…I almost want to believe him.

In many ways, this dark ‘forbidden romance reminded us of the books we read and loved back in the day and it had a familiar aspect which we’ve definitely missed. We couldn’t put this books down; compelled by the writing and the characters. Without question, if you’re a fan of those provoking dark romances that at times are uncomfortable to read you will love Liar Liar by T. L. Martin.

‘She watched me before she caught onto me watching her. She listened before she knew I played for her. She was mine before I showed her she was mine. She consumed me before I even touched her.

Guys, this book was so good!! Like almost 5 stars. Thanks to Ainhoa for doing this Buddy Read with me! It was fun and it really helped to have someone else to talk to about this book.

The sexual tension at the beginning of the story was too die for. I was smiling and lowkey freaking out? IDK that's how I get sometimes with good sexual tension. Also, there were a lot of mysteries that the author did a good job of not revealing too soon, instead, she gradually revealed them to us and with a lot of showing rather than telling, which is appreciated!! Too many books suffer from telling rather than showing. For example, how come Eva became adopted by Easton's family if the parents didn't even seem to like her/interact with her much? What happened to Eva's dad? Who was this bad guy from her past? Why does Easton's dad seem to hate him? Why does Easton seem to never talk to her, yet watch her all the time with his intense gaze?

Plot: The story starts out with thirteen-year-old Eva running away from her dad and the man he's sold her to at a hotel. Then the story jumps next to the present when she's 18, adopted by a rich family with a son named Easton she's had a crush on for a while who is one year older than her. Eva attends Caspian Prep High with Easton, a fancy high school where wealthy people's children attend.
She's known as the school slut there.

I didn't really like how at the beginning, Eva went out of her way to cultivate a bad reputation. Later we learn how a lot of this bad reputation is really just smoke and mirrors. She didn't really even enjoy her encounters with other boys (men) too.

Easton was my favorite part of the story. He was so caring and kind but also really intense and a little mysterious at the same time. Honestly, can I have Easton??! He was just that great. So great that I'm making a new shelf, Can I have him? (heroes I would like to be with) Hero hall of fame shelf, for my favorite heroes in romances.

It was even really cute how in their first intimate scene they didn't even have sex, rather they were just grinding on each other but it still got them both off & meant a lot to both of them.

So this is a stepbrother stepsister romance but it's also a forbidden romance too and takes place during high school, so if that sounds interesting to you (beware of the trigger warnings though!), definitely pick this one up! I really enjoyed it.
***I do not consider this Young Adult.

Wow, this book grabbed me right from the beginning and I do recommend you have Kleenex ready because you'll need it.

Eva's life changed at the tender age of 13 and from that moment on she put up the walls around her heart and life. She knew she would never allow herself to be that vulnerable again. Easton knew that Eva had walls around her heart and that made him want to "save" her from what she went through. In my opinion, Easton's life is no better than Eva yet he hasn't had it as rough as her. Despite it he's ready and willing to help Eva no matter what or who is against them. Seeing their relationship blossom was beautiful but seeing Easton show Eva that she is stronger than she or others give her credit was awesome! Thank you for such a deep and emotionally beautiful story!! Kara~ 4.5 Stars

I am completely blown away, and utterly in love with Easton & Eva.

Let me tell you, from the moment I read the blurb, I knew I was gonna need to read this ASAP. My first read from this author, and my socks are completely knocked off.
The tornado of emotions that I just experienced was absolutely all consuming.
I’m not going to say much. The suspense kept me on my toes, the angst was chart topping, and the premise to the story was exactly right.
I’m off to check out this authors backlist, honestly, because I think I may have found my newest favorite.

Captivating, heartbreaking and amazing. This is a new to me author and she exceeded my expectations with the story or Eva and Easton.
I loved the Dual POV and both characters felt so real and had perfect tone for their age.
Step sibling romance filled with angst, smart banter, forbidden slow burn and all the feels.

In Liar, Liar, developed tough subjects and she did it brilliantly. She wove a tale a pain, longing, understanding and compassion, but most of all, a tale of honest and pure love.

Here we follow the journey of Eva and Easton, characters who have had a strong and deep connection for a really long time but are unable to act on it, each for their own reasons.

Going into this story, I knew I would need tissues, if only because, no matter what she writes, manages to make me fall and feel for her characters in record time. My heart broke alongside Eva's and was mended by Easton's dedication, respect and real devotion to Eva. Usually I would call dibs on a hero like Easton : he reminded me that not all heroes need to be brooding, dark bad boys; they can be sweet, patient and caring too. However, what he shares with Eva is too raw and real and honest to even joke about it. Instead, I'll pin over Alejandro and add that I'd love to read his story ;)

In summary, even writing a new trope, gave the story all it needed : a great and captivating plot, complex and relatable characters as well as growth, laughter and tears. And let's not forget the impeccable writing style that hooked me from the first page. I loved this book, simply loved it.

I received an ARC of this book

It does not happen very often that I encounter a book that will leave speechless. Speechless, breathless, emotionally raw, and in a total and complete book hangover. I was in a book slump prior to reading this and Liar, Liar not only took me out of it, but flew me into the air like a clay pigeon during skeet shooting practice.

After reading the blurb, I KNEW I had to read this book. It was intriguing and mysterious, just begging you to open the page and see all the bad, good, and ugly that life contains. Ms. Martin tackled some seriously heavy topics and she did it with the utmost respect and care.
Between the book covers, we follow a tale of Easton and Eva. Eva and Easton were complete multi-dimensional characters. They have different backgrounds and scenarios, but they understood each other’s pain and suffering.

Easton, hmm. I loved Easton. He was the gentle and quiet alpha, yet protective when he needed to be. He is such a sweet and tender-hearted individual that it is hard not to love him. Eva. Poor Eva has been through the wrecker when it comes to the parent’s lottery. She has suffered immensely out of anyone in this book. She has experienced more things than an average individual will experience in his/her lifetime and somehow digs deep to find that courage and strength to do what she needs to do (Sorry, no spoilers, that’s why its vague).

The only word of advice that I will give you is, bring Kleenex. Lots of Kleenex. I bawled for who Easton and Eva are, were, and who they wanted to be. I will gladly be coming back for more from TL Martin. She just wrote a book that has landed on my Best of 2020 list!!

Where do I even begin? Martin has once again delivered a knock-out of a book! It’s emotional, explosive, action-packed, and so intense.

Eva is one of the most badass female characters I’ve read about to date. She has been through hell (literally), yet is so strong and able to persevere through situations that keep knocking her down.

Easton is a tender, selfless guy who is desperate to be loved.

They come from vastly different walks of life, but both of their parents have failed miserably in the parenting department. And when I say miserably, I mean MISERABLY. Yet they push through, day by day. The rest is for you to read and find out what happens :-)

Gah, I just love this author. I’m so glad I was able to read this book. I would highly recommend it!

This story pulled me in and I was consumed by these characters and their story.
It’s a story with a lot of gritty elements but, it was written so poetically that it was a pleasure to read even the dark and tragic things. I highlighted so many passages and re-read them. Such beautiful writing!
The love is forbidden and angsty and that’s my favorite kind! The steam and unique interactions between the characters was so hot! I swooned and fanned myself quite a few times ;)
It was such a full story, each character has their past to contend with and the present. It wasn’t cookie cutter or over the top.
Pitch perfect story and characters that will stay with me.
I love this book so much!
Highly recommend it!

2.75 -3 stars.

this one is hard for me to rate. it was pretty slow going until 3/4 in and not slow burn just nothing much happening. the story is somewhat predictable and far-fetched however there was something that kept me reading. i liked the hero however we don’t really get much from him even though it’s told in dual perspective and I think that says it all. The flaw in this book for me was everything is surface value and not enough depth. I did end up skimming through a few chapters at the end as well as i started to lose interest. so many readers 5 star every book they read these days just for the sake of it so I try to be honest in my ratings and while this was okay i found it really forgettable.

“I live to be noticed by him, to feel the heat of his gaze. But right now, I don’t feel pleasure. I feel like shit.

Liar, Liar is a new standalone forbidden/high school dark romance featuring the love story of Easton & Eva. Living a life no child should be forced to, Eva‘s only solace comes from the beautiful music being played by the boy in the big house. Eva soon finds herself a member of that household, playing little sister to the one guy she can’t be with no matter how far she’s already fallen. So she does whatever is necessary to keep his attention while pushing him away, little does she know Easton’s been in the palm of her hand since the very first time he saw her. But Easton isn’t the only one who wants her, yet he may be the very one that can save her.

“I might not have talked to you this much before, but I’ve always noticed you, Eva. His voice is so soft it floats over my skin. “All I’ve done for three fucking years is notice you.

Martin wrote one of my most favorite dark romances of 2019, a book that was perfectly twisted and beautifully written. So when I saw this little gem release, I didn’t care what it was about only that I knew I would read it. Admittedly, I wasn’t a fan of Eva’s for most of this book but that doesn’t mean I didn’t sympathize with her. However when it came to Easton....

......well let’s just say he stole my heart from his very first appearance and now owns a spot at the very top portion of my fave book boyfriends list. And the story? As heartbreaking as it is addicting....I devoured this book like it was going to disappear if I put it down.

Book Facts:
Told in: Dual POV, bouncing from present to past throughout the book.
Triggers: Sensitive subject matters that involve rape, child prostitution/trafficking, and violence.
Ends in: HEA ending for couple with extended epilogue.

The Main Players:
Easton: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“It’s the kind of face that could make a girl spill all of her secrets without ever realizing he’d stolen them.

Eva: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
“God, I need her to be real. I need her to be everything I know she is underneath the show she puts on, because she was made for me. She must have been. Otherwise, why would this hurt so damn much?

What worked for me:
❤️ I loved this story (don’t get me wrong) but Easton was everything for me. The way he has this bad boy edge to him yet is such a genuinely good hearted guy, he was just a special kind of different. And when he drops this line.....
“Don’t kid yourself, Eva, he says softly, still struggling to control his breathing. “I’ve been on my knees for you since the day you told me your name.
description
....I couldn’t help but feel it deep in my bones and love him even more for it. But what I admired the most is how despite everything Eva does, he sees the “real her and refuses to let her believe shes worthless or deserves anything short of everything. And trust me when I say, this girl is going to infuriate you with her self-sabotaging ways and zero self-worth.....
“You, he says coarsely. “You’re fucking beautiful. “Stop. Don’t say that. “Why not? “Because ... My throat’s thick—so thick I can hardly speak. “Because if you say it enough ... I might start to believe you.
....yet he never stops trying to make her see what he sees. Gawh, can I seriously will him into actual existence?

❤️ Despite the fact I wasn’t an Eva fan, I would be a liar if I said I didn’t respect her strength. The amount of crap the universe throws at this girl and the fact she refuses to break is admirable. The way she is willing to take other’s hate for her yet is so protective of Easton’s tender heart....
“I will hunt you down, and I will make your life a living hell. Believe me, I know exactly what hell is, and it takes balls much bigger than yours to survive it.
.....it only made her harder to hate, especially as the story moved along.

❤️ I wasn’t sure if I would like the whole back & forth from past to present, especially when a lot of her past doesn’t involve Easton. However, I quickly discovered it was crucial to setting the emotional tone for the present-day Eva and why she is how she is. It was by far the hardest portion of the book and I’m sure every reader will have a tough time reading through some of it, yet I realized without it there is no way I would’ve been as emotionally invested as I ended up being.
“All I know is, I made it. I made it to the music. I choke on a sob. I’m going to be okay. I have to be okay.

❤️ Alejandro.....

.....I want his story. The way he is so protective and devoted to Eva and her safety & future.....
The calmness in his voice fades, and a menacing tone seeps through the phone. “Tell me who I need to kill.
.....I am not above begging to see him again.

The Verdict:

Even though there were a few moments when I was so put off by Eva’s behavior and choices that I was sure this would either land on my DNF shelf or be a low star rated read, this story continued to bloom in such a beautiful (albeit very painful) way.....it was one of those that snuck up on me emotionally and gave me that hurt I crave when reading while also delivering a book boyfriend that is definitely top 5 material (I need to evaluate my list bc he’s beating out some popular faves). This is a book MORE people need to discover and devour, one that shouldn’t be ignored or skipped over.

“I love you. I could love you forever. I think ... I think I can even love you enough.

4.5 stars

At 13 years old Eva escapes an unimaginable horror filled night and ends up in an unknown neighbourhood. She has absolutely nothing now, no home, no comfort, no money, no food - nothing. She finds solace beside a garden shed at a house, under a window, where she hears a quitar playing beautiful music that soothes her into sleep.

For the next 12 months she frequently returns to that house just to enjoy the solace she finds in listening to the music. What she has to do each day to survive is only made bearable by the thought of jumping on a bus out to the suburbs to her little window of peace. She always thought she was completely undetected until one night she discovers someone has left her something to eat and drink - the first piece of kindness she has received in such a long time.

Jumping forward to the present day, Eva now lives with the Rutherford family, adopted into it when she was 15 years old. They are wealthy and have been able to give her a safe roof over her head but they are completely dysfunctional. Disconnected parenting, an unhappy marriage and a broody brother makes every day interesting. Eva’s brother Easton goes to the same high school as her but they are definitely not friends.

The prestigious high school they both attend is filled with spoilt, entitled rich kids. The girls are bitchy and love to antagonise Eva. The boys all think she is a whore and are vying for their chance to get a ‘turn. She doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her and in fact she feeds into the gossip mill by never denying anything said about her. The only person truly bothered by all this is Easton.

Despite the fact that he hardly ever speaks to her, he is always watching. In fact, she has no idea how much he has been watching over her since she became part of their family. He knows her better than anyone, purely by observing quietly in the background. He is fiercely protective of her and completely in love with her. She just doesn’t know it yet. Eva loves the way Easton looks at her, she enjoys trying to get a rise out of him and the effect she has on his composure.

‘She watched me before she caught onto me watching her. She listened before she knew I played for her. She was mine before I showed her she was mine. She consumed me before I even touched her.

When Eva’s past comes crawling back into her life she is terrified of facing what she thought she had left behind when she ran. Easton is about to prove how far he will go to protect the girl he loves.

This story jumps back and forth from the past to the present day, which fills in Eva’s back story to give a better understanding of what she has gone through and how it has shaped who she is now. This is my second read from this author and once again she delivered up an addictive, emotional story
