The Newspaper Nanny

Rate this book
This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN B095Z4P7R4

When I stumbled across my dream job in the classified section of my newspaper, I knew it had to be too good to be true.

Turns out it was.

Becoming the nanny for the grumpiest hockey coach in the NHL was more like a nightmare.

Liam Cartright was infuriating, stubborn, and impossible. Oh, and he happened to be my new boss.

I should have signed my resignation with a giant kiss my ass the moment he opened his mouth, but I couldn’t.

I fell for his little girls before I realized it was happening, and my resolve began to weaken.

Our roles were clearly drawn out.

He was the boss, and I was the nanny.

But then we crossed a line.

I wouldn’t lose my job over a chiseled jawline and a few stolen kisses.

I couldn’t. Not when so much was at stake.

But Liam was the one who made the rule book, and I had no choice but to play by his rules.

The Blurb of this book is so much better than what we get.
What we do get is a low drama, fast paced, predictable, mediocre nanny book.

The beginning of the book did not hook me or give me any reason to care and it was just so damn slow. Between the long conversation with Liam and Reed about finding a nanny, and the setup for his ex that never came into play. Then we move onto Juliet and all the time spent with nana at the nursing home and then the unnecessary scene about going to the bar with Alex, then we move onto her job and boss at the diner just to get a cliché scene where she meets her soon to be boss and almost breaks his nose. The start of the book was so so slow and full of unnecessary information and scenes I almost DNF'ed it. If I'm being honest I should have DNF'ed it.

-to much time spent at the retirement home overall, but especially in the beginning of the book. I didn't really enjoy nana and her friends, it felt like filler and boring fluff that took away from the true story.
-Liam and Juliet never had any true relationship developments or time together it was just lust to love but no moments together to get us there or to make us really root for them
-The kids are 3 and 5 but are so well behaved and act perfect- not realistic, why does everyone write angel kids? huge pet peeve
-The set up with his ex turned into nothing. It was never truly developed and never came full circle or was even flushed out. In the end a lot of his actions were blamed on how his ex did him dirty and fucked him up but we never got to see that struggle through the book and suddenly at the end it was just like "oh well ya know my ex really fucked me up and I've been a shell of a man ever since" fucking show me don't tell me how you are a shell of a man. Let me see Liam struggle with intimacy and trust bc of his ex like if you are going to use the ex as a excuse at least build up her story.
-We never know anyone's age and never know much about any of the people around him, like the people at the end of the epilogue and Briggs, they could have had more subtle set up, and I wouldn't have been so confused as to who the hell these people are and why they are important. I am still confused about them.
-I didn't like the authors writing it felt very clunky at times and gave lots of unnecessary info that made things boring. She also tends to write lots of paragraphs instead of breaking it up. long paragraphs lead to info dumping stupid shit, repeating same info and just boring ness overall.
-Also what is with the weird cliché amount of falling in this book, Juliet falls and hurts her ankle and she falls in shower. Liam falls during basketball and falls on her drunk in the hallway.
-Almost setup for thunderstorm trope then just doesn't follow through - I was just hoping for the thunderstorm trope because I love that trope but instead we got a weird naked standoff in the bathroom. It was weird and awkward. Besides who rushes into the bathroom when someone screams after the power goes out? Like it get it she was in the shower and you were worried about her but ever heard of KNOCKING?
-I felt like I didn't really get to know the characters and who they really are and their internal struggles or anything- Very poor character and relationship development
-Liam was supposed to be hot and cold with her but we hardly ever got that maybe 1 or 2 times in the beginning of the book but then that's it, very disappointing that it happened so little when Juliet makes it sound more than it was. We Also heard about the tension but never really felt it between the Characters.
-Lot of development happens behind the scenes and a lot of time passes, suddenly its a week later or a month etc., it left the timeline very confusing because all of a sudden it was pregame training then it was the first game and suddenly they won the playoffs and are going to the Stanley cup or something? time fly's very fast in this book.
-There are some Very repetitive internal monologue, like someone will talk about something or think it then the next page it gets brought up again, then then a few chapters later it gets brought up again but it never gets developed its all surface level and it happens a lot,
-Liam and reed talk about how he is a shell of a man until Juliet comes into his life but you never really see or feel that, again poor character development.
- Juliet fell into the mother role quickly and skipped the learning how to deal and take care of the kids she was just instantly perfect with them and everything was perfect.
-poor take on grumpy sunshine trope
- the time it takes to get to the actually newspaper ad part of this book was ridiculous
- emotionally lacking
-its crazy because they don't even enter some type of relationship until 70% through the book and then in no time at all he breaks up with her because he's not thinking things through and then he gets her back right at the end but it felt cheap and not romantic. his speech didn't match what happened in the book and doing it at the old folks home was kind of a weird place to declare your love while you try to win the girl back.
-I tend to dislike it in books when nana's/grandparents play a huge role, but I do think It can be done right. IMO I don't think it was done right and it was very boring and cliché with the whole grandpa donut newspaper Sunday date thing, lol how convenient?
-I wanted to love Liam and Juliet, but there were times when the connection between them felt forced
-It was kind of frustrating how Liam kept running away when things got tough and then he would use his daughters as an excuse to justify everything to himself. again if the relationship with his ex was more flushed out and prevalent in the book then we would understand him running away but it wasn't.

I'm not trying to be harsh but all these little things/inconsistency's bugged me in the book. overall its not the worst thing ever but I don't think I will be reading from this author anymore. I have read some reviews and people have said consistently that the blurb and premise of her books are amazing but the story itself ends up falling flat, just like this one did. Granit this is only her second book, I might try again later down the road but I doubt her writing will change enough for me to truly enjoy her stories.

The Newspaper Nanny is THAT reading of the month; quick and light, fun, cute and heartwarming, all in one! it's just that you can never go wrong with a single parent trope and grumpy-sunshine dynamic 🥰.

Liam Cartright got his dream job as a NHL coach, but now he needs a nanny to watch his two little girls, and he needs to find her NOW! That's how he ended up with an ad in the newspaper classifieds, who even reads that in these times? he's so lost. Following her Sunday ritual, Juliet Michaels found the perfect job for her, that way she can quit her horrible job and take care of her grandmother. The girls adored her from the first moment she set foot in her house, but their dad, −this grumpy hockey coach that she met the day before without knowing would be her future boss, suddenly doesn't seens so happy to have her around.

The main characters, although diametrically opposed, were meant for each other. They were both super likeable, even when Liam was being his broody self, putting these high walls between him and Juliet. And Juliet was something else! She was so kind and caring of everyone around her, and her immediate bond with the girls was such a cute thing to read, the same with the way she took care of her Nana. And Liam's daughters were the icing on the cake. I love books with kids as comic relief, and these two little girls, along with Nana's witty comebacks, were one of the most fun things to read.

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn’t expecting so much when going into this, but I ended up LOVING this! This is single dad, age gap, forced proximity, forbidden boss/nanny and I ate this up! Liam is this grumpy NHL coach and he needs a nanny for his two daughters. He puts an ad in a newspaper for a nanny and Juliet decides to apply. Liam immediately sees the affect she has on his girls, but there is also an instant attraction between them. I felt like this book had everything I needed! It was cute, there was fluff, a great family dynamic, and even a little bit of spice. I loved seeing how Liam and Juliet were with the girls. Liam is such a great dad and you can see how fond of them Juliet is and her love for them just grows and grows. Overall, just everything about this book made me love this story. It was very short and fast paced so it held my attention. I enjoyed the relationship development between Liam and Juliet. They constantly try to fight the attraction they have so that they don’t cross a line, but there is just so much tension between them! There are scenes where Liam takes care of her because she’s hurt, he gets INSANELY JEALOUS. Loved these moments so much! I LOVED all the side characters as well (Juliet’s grandma and her retirement friends, Liam’s players and best friend). I know we will also be able to read about some of the characters we meet here and I’m so excited to read about them. I was squealing and screaming and just rooting for Liam and Juliet the entire time. I think this is a great intro if you’re looking to read a single dad romance! Definitely recommend this for a cute and quick easy read!

This was such an adorable book. It was fast-paced, full of all the cute moments, and fairly low drama. Liam is a single dad to two little girls, and he's looking for a nanny. After placing an ad in the newspaper, he finds the perfect girl for the job, Juliet. Liam is always grumpy and tries his best to stay away from Juliet to avoid temptation, but two hot people living in close quarters can only lead to one result. The daughters were so cute and funny, and Liam is the best girl dad.

I would've liked to see a little more tension or build up, and the 3rd act conflict was a little dramatic for me. But other than that this was just such an enjoyable read! It has the quintessential cute rom-com type moments: he catches her when she falls, cares for her when she's hurt, comforts her during a storm, has to rescue her when she falls in the shower (my personal fav). Highly recommend if you want a quick, super cute single dad romance! Can't wait to read more from this author!

Cute! But not very memorable.

I forget literally everything that happened past the 50% point, maybe I was just busy and not paying attention or maybe this was just forgettable. Maybe even both. But I really loved the girls in this, they seemed like actual kids. Not two dimensional or see through. They also weren't all up in their dad's love life and trying to get them together. I hate when toddlers have ALL the knowledge in the world and they spill the beans to their nanny that the dad is alone and would love a wife blah blah blah. But I actually really enjoyed the kids in this. The romance was like I said not memorable but the wholesome moments between the nanny and the girls really made up for it. It was also quite funny sometimes. Both MC's were boring though and I can't even remember their names (read this a couple weeks ago so maybe that's why...). I just wish I had connected with them more.

ALSO- not throw shade or anything but WHY DOES THERE HAVE TO BE A NAKED MAN ON THE COVER 😭😭MY FAMILY FOLLOWS MY REVIEWS FOR LORDS SAKE. Be a little bit more inconspicuous my god

This wasn’t for me. I found a lot of time errors, it was really fast paced and the characters were jumping feelings like frogs. One second the guy hated the girl and I kid you not 0.2 seconds later they were having sex. Normally I wouldn’t have a problem but the feelings just aren’t explained enough for me to actually enjoy this. The only positive things I can say are the kids and the grandma.

And she does it again folks! The Newspaper Nanny is a captivating quick read with a heartwarming narrative of unconditional love.

Liam is a former NHL player who is now pursuing a career as a coach. He is a single parent with two beautiful daughters, but he needs help. Especially now that he is a coach and will be away with his team for six months. As a result, he decides to hire a live-in nanny. It shouldn't be that difficult to find a nanny, right? Well, at least my man Reed is here to help him out. Reed recommended placing an advertisement in the newspaper. But who reads newspapers these days? And who will be able to meet all of Liam's needs for a Nanny.

Juliet needs a change in her life. She had a sad background, is in financial difficulty, had to discontinue her education, and now works in a diner. But she desires to get her life back on track. Fortunately for her, she followed her Sunday ritual of reading the newspaper with a dozen donuts and discovered Liam's advertisement in the paper. This would the perfect job for her. She swiftly replied with an email stating that she would be delighted to apply. She finally received an answer one night while working at the diner. But before she could send anything back, a man stepped into the diner, startling her and resulting in a bloody nose for him. However, as the night progresses, she is scheduled for an interview for the nanny job the next morning.
Liam only realizes who he's about to interview when he opens his front door and sees the girl who gave him the bloody nose. Although the interview was interrupted, Juliet's interaction with his children convinced him that she was the right person for the job.

The chemistry between Liam and Juliet is what makes this book so special. The tension and attraction between them began the instant they met, and it isn't going away no matter what they do. Throughout the ups and downs, their bond is still becoming stronger. Juliet's relationship with the girls was incredibly sweet. Liam is an incredible father to his daughters, and I admire his willingness to go above and beyond for them. They're amazing in every way.
*Thank you for the arc in exchange for an honest review*

ps: if reed ever gets his own book he should be with a girl named maddison🤭

Retired NHL player turned coach & single dad to two girls, Liam is desperate for a nanny. His best friend convinces him to post an ad in the paper after all his other prospects fell through. And that’s how he meets gorgeous—and much younger—Juliet.

Juliet never finished college and she’s been stuck working at a job she hates to pay the bills, including her grandmother’s elderly care facility. When she sees an ad in the paper for a full-time nanny with incredible pay, it seems too good to be true.

Liam knew Juliet was trouble the second she arrived to his house, and yet, he let her walk in the door anyway

Newspaper Nanny by Maren Moore is a short & sweet romance with a trope I love: single dad falls for the nanny. This was on the short side, coming in at around 200-pages, which left me wanting a little more length wise. I think this romance could’ve benefited from another 50-pages of romantic tension development. With that said, I thought this was a fun romance and it was a light read. I like that it somewhat tied into Maren’s last book—The Enemy Trap. Overall, I enjoyed Liam & Juliet’s romance and I’ll continue on with the interconnecting books! 3.5/5 stars.

The single parent trope is one of my favourites so of course I knew I was going to love this book and it did not disappoint.

Liam was such an incredible dad to his daughters, who by the way are soooo adorable and cute.

And the way Juliet is so caring towards the girls, no wonder Liam fell for her. I would’ve fallen in love with her too. She was honestly such a great heroine.
