The musical is based off the book, but to be honest, this is the one case that I liked the musical better. Take for example Michael. I loved his character in the musical, Michael in the Bathroom being one of my top ten musical betrayals of all time, but in the book? He's a sexist, horrible white boy with an Afro. You heard me right. And instead of having an emotional breakdown in the bathroom, he gets laid. Personally, the musical was better, end of story.
