What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Nicole Pyland There's the write what you know club and the write what you're afraid of club and then there's the write when you can't not write (and yes, I know that's a double negative). My advice is simple. Don't force your writing. Allow it to come to you. Sure, it's inconvenient to be in the shower and have brilliant dialogue enter your brain and you have no way of writing it down. It's not exactly fun to be sitting in a meeting at work as you fully conceptualize a character and her path in your story and maybe you run back to your desk as quickly as possible to type out a quick summary so you won't forget, but when I've allowed myself permission to NOT write, I've found that my lack of discipline actually yields the best stories and they flow right out of me onto the page.
