It is a sequel. However, it isn't necessary to read it to enjoy this book. Will give you more context on the references to his childhood. Very much worth the read. The Last Child was the first book I read by John Hart and set me out to read all of his books.

Probably, but you won't be disappointed with The Last Child. Read it a few years back and bought the book again recently on the spur of moment.
Joe
No. But read it because it is great. Won an Edgar I believe.

Other than the location, the names of the characters, and their connections, little is carried over from The Last Child. However, The Last Child is far superior, so I'd definitely recommend it!
Judith
Not really necessary to have read The Last Child, but it will help as I mentioned in my review.

Depends on your memory. I felt the first part would have made a lot more sense if I could have remembered what happened in the first one. Ten years is a long time. I remember it was good.
