I read somewhere that you write in the afternoon for just a few hours each day. Is that true? What do you do in the morning? And how do you keep yourself focused in those couple hours?

Sarah Dessen Hi Emily! :) When I started writing, I had a morning job and a night job, so afternoons 2-4 were the only time I had to write. I got used to that time of day. Then I was teaching in the AM and chasing my kid. But lately, I've taken to shaking things up and working both morning and afternoon for a couple of hours. It makes me more reclusive but MUCH more productive! We'll see if I can keep it up.
