For me it was getting to take my brain on a mental vacation while in the creative mode. My full-time job is mentally taxing (I'm in a detective unit that handles sex assaults against children) so the writing allows me to escape to another place.
The other amazing aspect is connecting with readers around the world. I love that my story is being read by people in multiple countries. It makes the world seem small and engaging.
