Vincent Kirk No, you can read it as a stand-alone play. If, at some point, you do want to read other plays that connect to it, read the three "Henry VI" plays. The…mǰNo, you can read it as a stand-alone play. If, at some point, you do want to read other plays that connect to it, read the three "Henry VI" plays. They take place before "Richard III", and characters from it appear, so you can get a sense of where people are coming from at the start of "Richard III". But, as has been said, it works as a stand-alone play, so it's certainly not necessary.(less)
