Kaitlin asked:

Having finished this novel a while back, I'm curious to hear how the readers of "Blue Angel" perceive Professor Swenson. Is he a hero of his own making because he finally escaped what he perceived as an intolerable personal and professional situation? Is he a villain for engaging in what he actively recognized as misconduct? Or is he simply human for misinterpreting his circumstances and accepting the consequences?

Karen Tragic hero. He saw it coming. Accepted his fate. Tried to weasel out of it, and so, profoundly human. A villain? Did he mean anyone any harm? No. Was his conduct premeditated? No. I don't think so.
