It depends on how worldly your pre-teen is and their level of reading material. I consider it at the level of Lord of the Flies type of book which is an approved school book. If your child can read and understand that book, then this book can be read by the 12-year-old.

I would not recommend Blaze for younger readers. Most Stephen King novels have quite a bit of harsh language and often have some fairly adult material. Blaze is no exception.
