Dianne I enjoyed this a lot too so some of my other favorites are:

Sarah Maas - Throne of Glass series
^^My new favorite author and series!!
Sarah Maas - A Court of Thorns and Roses series
Ted Dekker/Tosca Lee - The Books of Mortals series
Phillip Pullman - His Dark Materials trilogy
Piers Anthony - Incarnations of Immortality series

I'm also big into mythology so all the Rick Riordan books are great and he's got Greek, Roman, and Egyptian covered! All very well written and the Greek actually do a few cross-overs into the Roman series so that was fun.
Bethany Bruns Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon
Lynn Try The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss or Codex Alera by Jim Butcher. They are both fantasy, with a bit of 'magic' mixed in. No witches or vampires though.
Jennifer Lynn Alvarez Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder--awesome storytelling!!
Brittney Anne Beautiful Creatures, the movie was horrible but the series is good!
Cathy G Shadow of Night, and Book of life are the next books in this series. Awesome series
Jenifer The Magician Series by Lev Grossman. A Stand Alone Book - The Night Circus by Erin Morganstern.
Lori Lamb Have you read the witch series by Anne Rice?
Andrea If you liked this, you might also enjoy the Glamourist Histories by Mary Robinette Kowal. The first one is Shades of Milk and Honey. It's historical fantasy set in the time of Napolean... but with magic. Witty repartee, a lovely, well-researched historical setting, sweet romance, and interesting character dilemmas.
Sherry The Wicked series by Janet Evanovich. The Dark series by Christine Feehan.
Dustin Perkins Try 'Somebody Tell Aunt Tillie She's Dead' by Christiana Miller. It's a trilogy series and the books aren't too long, less than 400 pages, and they're an easy read.
Joseph Thomas The Rachel Morgan or Hollows series by Kim Harrison
Karen Darynda Jones...First Grave on the Right series...I love the series...I have read JR Ward but after the second book it drove me crazy so I stopped.
Jennifer Downer, Oracle and Recontructionist Series by Meghan Ciara Doidge - not so much Historical fiction but funnier. Also Trish O’Malley has a fabulous series which is highly entertaining and all set in Ireland.
Allison The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare immediately comes to mind!
Also, Paula Brackston writes some excellent witch stories. The Witch's Daughter and Return of the Witch are my favorites.
Charles The Twilight series.
Eliana So I loved Sarah j maas. If u don't mind the medieval-y type stuff but other books like:
Fallen- Lauren Kate
banished- liz de jaeger
hush hush- haven't read it yet but it sounds totally rad.
Lissa Key, Circle, and Sign of Seven trilogies all by Nora Robers
Jane The Mayfair Witches series by Anne Rice.
Zo Kronberg Sorcery of Thorns and Lirael are both extremely good and deal with magical forces loosed in libraries. They both have excellent worldbuilding, writing and plot as well. I am not sure I agree with many of the other recommendations for "books like this" as they are mainly for fantasy books that contain magic as opposed to dealing with similar subjects (and equally good writing).
Debbie Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell has the same epic writing voice, I think, and there is an amazing against-all-odd love story.
HJ Hof >>Any recommendations for other books like this?
Sure: avoid them. All.
AKriegh Since you've read the series, I have a question.. Is this a stand alone series or would we (my book club) have to read the entire series to get the full story? I like the sound of this book for an October read, but don't want to have to read a full series.

I would also recommend The Court Series by Sarah J. Maas. Very good!
Chrissy The Fever series by Karen Marie Moening. Loved it!
