Dan I think it has to do with the fact that she found the boy and returned him to his dad and this helped provide closure for her on the loss of her own son - it restored her faith in humanity a bit, and helped her see or remember more deeply the importance of family connection. Hence her willingness to marry Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni!
