I actually don't know! Maybe he just didn't notice them, because he was so caught up in Cedric and Voldemort and all the things that happened in that year at Hogwarts.

That is a good question! I like the theory that Harry was just too tired to notice anything rather than Rowling forgot about this detail :) Or may be it takes time…like you need to process what you saw to start seeing the horses.
