asked:
In book 10, after watching a French cook being flogged on the accusation of being a spy, Pierre runs off to join the army. He had been having a drive to join the army and fight off the French for a couple of chapters now, and he had always been a character capricious about doing heroic things, but what has a French spy being flogged got to do with his reinforced decision to join the army?
