Jemma asked:

Is this really the end of this book? I absolutely loved this, but people said this book was really sad. That Jonas or someone in this book died. But no one did. Is my copy missing a chapter or two? Does this book have a sequel that incudes Jonas? What happens after they ride the sled down the hill? When they reached the place where Jonas had visited in the memory, was that supposed to indicate that they were dead?

Becca Turner No, if you look into Lois Lowry's other books, The Giver is just one of the books in a series. The rest are good as well, and tell more about Jonas!
Fish Lee No, it's not the end of the book. Jonas reappears in the third book 'Messenger'. But yeah, of course it's really sad. That's how the author carries you through to the next book. But I really recommend reading the second book so you can understand what happens in the third book.

Anne Ominus There are 3 more books after the giver (gathering blue, messenger, and son). If you read them you'll find out what happens to Jonas, though it doesn't clearly say that Jonas is there until messenger.

isabel No, he doesn't die. And it actually is a sad book, how would you feel if you run away from your family?
Cash Schroeder There are 3 other books, Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son.
Charles Jonas shows up in Messanger, the third book in the series. If you read closely, the Giver and Messanger both have clues proving that Jonas didn't die in The Giver.
Fin there are theories that Jonas and Gabriel die in the end, and that the sled ride and music were just a dream of joy signifying their death. I don't think so, though. This ending is full of meaning and symbolism, and it can be interpreted in many different ways.
Anjila the end when they saw a bright light fans think they went to heavan
