It seemed as if it had become a tradition that if you killed someone, you tattooed a mark on your arm. Why would that have happened? Why would it be something you would want people to know about you?

It sort of reminded me of the Walking Dead, with the three questions Rick must ask everyone before taking them in, one of those questions being, "How many people have you killed?". (less)
