There are similarities to Hench and I felt like that had smidges of romance within the story but not at its core. It felt more low key slow burn in favor of focusing on the storyline, but hopefully it’ll play out in the sequel. Personally, and I mean no offense to the writer of this book, I preferred Hench.

I haven't read Hench, but a quick google search says that it's not a romance. The romance is a pretty core component to this novel, so I can't see how it can be a rip-off of a book in any other genre. Maybe it’s a ‘romantic twist� on Hench? I’m adding Hench to my TBR, since it sounds interesting and to compare the similarities.
