Why exactly was Peter Pettigrew sorted into Gryffindor? In my opinion, I think his very being contradicts every single characteristic Godric Gryffindor valued in his students.

But if you remember towards the end of the series, he did show Potter mercy, and ended up getting strangled by the silver hand Voldemort made for him. That was probably the only brave, noble thing he ever did, whether it was intentional or not, and I believe the sorting hat saw that he was capable of that... even if he made all the wrong choices.(less)
