Jeff Brandt asked Joseph Finder:

How long does it take you to write one of your novels? How many hours a day do you write? (by the way, love your books!).

Joseph Finder Jeff, thanks! It really depends. It took me three years to write my first book, but a big chunk of that was research and another big chunk of that was rewriting. Every book presents challenges of its own, and I feel I learn new things about writing with every book, but some things do get easier with practice. So at this point I'd say it takes me 6-8 months to complete a draft, and then another 3-4 months to revise it. I work a regular business day, more or less, starting very early in the morning. I'll start around 7:30 in the morning, write until about midday, have lunch and/or go to the gym, and then spend the afternoon planning the next day's writing. Toward the end of a book, I may keep writing into the night, or get up VERY early to keep writing -- the book takes on a momentum of its own.
