I am a fellow physics lover, so hopefully you don't mind me asking c: What was/is your favorite field in physics? Quantum, optics, experimental, ect.

Way back when I studied experimental particle physics, and liked that a lot -- a very satisfying mix of machine shops and QCD theory. These days I write for the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and of our nine fields I like writing about strong gravity the most -- I can almost always hook a reader with a black hole. Quantum fields and strings are my toughest beat.

This might be an overly think-y question, but as a fellow proud Hufflepuff (why don't people understand it is about *values* not *traits*?) I thought I'd ask. I'm not sure I quite understand how the succession of hostages works in "The Scorpion Rules." The hostages leave at 18. Then who is the hostage for their country until they produce their own hostage?
