There's not a lot of content in the first two books and it's filled with Bella's thoughts. Her what if's, her wondering, her inability to see the obvious, and her over emotional dramatics…ugh. She's not a strong female lead and the author made her quite annoying. First time I ever disliked the main character.

They think that Bella is a weak protagonist (which she kind of is). Some people also just hate on romance novels in general because it usually doesn't provide much of a plot on its own. Edward is also too controlling when it comes to Bella. However, I love Twilight for the action and characters like Alice and Carlisle. Bella and Edward irritate me, which I guess is the basis for the claim that Twilight is a bad series.

Because Bella is a weak protagonist. In Ya books these days the female protagonists are strong and can stand up for themselves and defend themselves. some examples are Clary (the Mortal Instruments) Celeana (Throne of Glass) Cinder, Cress, Scarlet (the Lunar Chronicles) Feyre (a Court of Thorns and Roses) Katniss (The Hunger Games) Bella needs Edward to survive practically giving the sense that women cant live without a "strong" male figure in their life. I understand that this creates of the "Romantic" genre of the book but i have read a lot of romantic books where the protagonist can have a protective strong significant other but still kick ass without them too (all of the women i listed above) Maybe the idea was that she was a human so she was weak because the female Vampires seemed way stronger than Bella.

Some people hate it because they think that it is stupid and lame I mean for some people all they see is dumb girl with a vampire and a werewolf fighting over her. Don't get me wrong I love the books a lot.

The reason why some people hate the Twilight Series is how needy and useless Bella is. Secondly, why does Bella smells so good for vampires? Why is she immune to their powers? Stephanie never answered these questions and just made them the way they are. Bella literally throws herself in harm's way to hear Edward's voice! Why can't she be strong like Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley, Annabeth Chase, Piper Mclean, etc?

I'll tell you why!! it's because Edward had to leave and then Jacob came and then Jacob tried to steal Bella away from Edward in the 3rd one and then Jacob became a BIG FAT JERK. so did Edward. (seriously)

Cardboard main character, "love interest" is just a pile of stereotypes of things teenage girls are supposed to find "attractive," creepy borderline abusive relationships are presented as "true love," main character who treats non-pretty people like crap and judges people by their looks is treated like a "heroin," and also the writing style might seem bad to anyone who hasn't been exposed to Paolini.
That said, I personally enjoyed some of the supporting characters like Alice, and saw nothing wrong with gratuitous wish-fulfillment for tween-girls, sans the bad morals about "love."

There was a thing between the Harry Potter books and the Twilight books. My sister won't read the Twilight books because she read Harry Potter.

Yeah, I totally agree with Alexandra. I think it's just mostly because of Bella that people hate it. I can understand that though. In New Moon, she was basically asking for danger to come to her.
