This book pretty quickly gets into electricity and basic circuits.
As you get further into the book, it gets very technical, to the point where you are actually building a computer and programming it.
There isn't any math, but definitely electronics and computer science.
I would not recommend this if you "in general have no inclination towards the sciences".

I am trying to dispell the myth so often spread by anyone involved with computer science! It isn't rocket science! Here on Medium is about this.
Vicky Chijwani asked this question so probably has enough interest to try. Yes, read this book! Just keep finishing chapters even if you are lost.
Sometimes it goes into a lot of detail to zoom out at the end, and then it clicks, but for that, you needed to learn a few key "building blocks" first.

The first few chapters a very well suited to the reading group in question. It ramps up pretty fast after that and might be too technical for most readers without a strong desire to learn.
