Tane asked Robyn Carr:

Your book have very endearing characters. When you start writing stories, how do you imagine your characters and give them life?

Robyn Carr I wish there was an easy answer, but the process of characterization is long and complex. Writing teachers have written whole books about how to characterize. I'll give you two rules of thumb -- consistency and with respect to human nature. By the middle of the novel the character should be identifiable by what he says and how he says it and it should not contradict what is universally accepted as human nature. But like I said, it's something I'm still studying and learning after 40 years of writing!
