Alice M. asked Jeff VanderMeer:

The concept of wild otherness from the Southern Reach trilogy has begun to influence my already nature-focused novel-in-progress. Is this okay/flattering or is it annoying?

Jeff VanderMeer Flattering, really. I owe a lot to Rachel Carson, Leena Krohn, Patiann Rogers, Michel Bernanos, and others who have tackle similar themes. Besides, I think whenever someone tackles something to do with nature they bring their own personal connection to a particular place with them.
