I got one saying CJ Box recommended. I kinda feel annoyed that they use big name authors who probably never even read the book as a marketing strategy, makes me now want to buy it, I'll borrow it from the library maybe.

I got the same email, but I, personally, I don't think I would pay the pre-order price for $12.99 for a Kindle version for a first time author. I will wait until they drop that asking price. Plenty of really good reads for less than that by proven authors.

If I'd know David Baldacci recommended this book I wouldn't have bought it....*sigh*. Half way through but I've set it aside for now. I'm beginning to wonder where all these rave reviews for "The Dry" came from.

Yes,I got the email as well.This book is being hyped as the next Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train.Reese Witherspoon has already acquired the movie rights.Sounds good,I pre-ordered it on my Kindle for Jan.10.

yes i did. so i looked it up & saw that it was highly recommended by other mystery writers as well as it had won some awards.

I got the CJ Box recommendation & realize that's what got me to spend the $$ for a first novel. It never crossed my mind that he hadn't read it and having read it myself and comparing it to Box's work, I'm sure he did; it seems the sort of thing he would like. I certainly did!

Saw the book title and Baldacci's recommendation in Book Review; I was the "first" reader of the book from the library and it is "on hold" for other readers. Very good - first time author! (I do not read on a Kindle).
