asked:
I'm not reading the book in English so can someone please write the quote from the beginning of chapter 20 in English and tell me who is it from? It goes something like this: We climb the hill of life, unaware of the death waiting on the other side of the hill.

In case you haven't found the quote yet, here it is:
"The cheerfulness and buoyancy of our youth are due partly to the fact that we are climbing the hill of life and do not see death that lies at the foot of the other side."

Hi! The quote you are referring to is from Schopenhauer's Parerga and Paralipomena. Unfortunately, though, I can't seem to find it in English.
Hope I could be of any help!
