“If you want a happy ending, it just depends on where you close the book!”

Stephan Pastis
“Whenever I see people with their collars up, I'm tempted to point it out to them like you would for someone who has a food stain on their shirt or food in their teeth, as if to say, 'Your fashion sense is so offensive I'm assuming it's some sort of accident you'll want to fix.”
Stephan Pastis

“This collar has a lot of meanings. Some Doms will use it for a training collar. That鈥檚 not necessarily what I want you to wear it for. I want you to wear it because I own this collar and the beautiful kitten wearing it. It shows you are taken, that you are my property, and you are off limits. It also represents that I鈥檓 off the market.鈥

鈥淒epending on the Dom and sub, it could also be used in the place of an engagement ring or a wedding ring.”
B.S.M. Stoneking, Capture's Temperance

Virginia Woolf
“She put on her lace collar. She put on her new hat and he never noticed; and he was happy without her.”

“I'd seriously contemplated a real collar - a sparkly green one - if only because I was sure it would offend his dignity.”
Kelley Armstrong, Omens

Jazz Feylynn
“Putting on the collar is taking charge of unexpected situations. Keeping humans from taking control from me. To tell hunters that I'm not prey. Not a trophy by wearing the collar. I looked at the circlet again. Looking deeper, I see not subjugation, but a tool of power to control my fate in the world of man that symbolizes my ownership over both my nature spirit and wolf-self.”
Jazz Feylynn, Colorado State of Mind

Craig D. Lounsbrough
“Dreams are ideas where the collar has been removed and the leash has been thrown away.”

“You and your brother have had moments. Don'tcha think the collar's a bit much?" I could imagine Jessie hogtied with whatever was at hand by his big bad sis.”

“Yes, Dad collared me before I was even born. Nevertheless, he made me the one in authority of the collar and myself.”

Lisa Kleypas
“Come forward."
As he complied, the queen leaned from the horse to pin the bronze cross with its crimson ribbon to his coat. Christopher made to withdraw, but she stopped him with a gesture and a word. "Remain." Her attention switched to Albert, who sat on the dais and cocked his head as he regarded her curiously. "What is your companion's name?"
"His name is Albert, Your Majesty."
Her lips quirked as if she were tempted to smile. She slid a brief glance to her left, at the prince consort. "We are informed that he campaigned with you at Inkerman and Sebastopol."
"Yes, Your Majesty. He performed many difficult and dangerous duties to keep the men safe. This cross belongs partly to him- he assisted in recovering a wounded officer under enemy fire."
The general charged with handing the orders to the queen approached and gave her a curious object. It looked like... a dog collar?
"Come forward, Albert," she said.
Albert obeyed promptly, sitting at the edge of the dais. The queen reached over and fastened the collar around his neck with a deft efficiency that revealed some experience with the procedure. Christopher recalled having heard that she owned several dogs and was partial to collies. "This collar," she said to Albert, as if he could understand her, "has been engraved with regimental distinctions and battle honors. We have added a silver clasp to commend the valor and devotion you have displayed in our service."
Albert waited patiently until the collar was fastened, and then licked her wrist.
"Impertinent," she scolded in a whisper, and patted his head. And she sent a brief, discreet smile to Christopher as they left to make way for the next recipient.”

“She places an enormous gray cat wearing a studded rhinestone collar with a matching leash on the ground, and I'm finding it extremely hard not to gawk. The cat is a silvery gray, almost blue, and its fur reminds me of feathers.”

“This is my cat, Juju," the woman says, noting my obvious confusion, maybe even my fear. "He's my good luck charm."
"Uh, yeah," I say, backing away ever so slightly. That's some collar.
I love the rhinestones. Tr茅s chic."
"Rhinestones? Don't be silly. I buy all his accessories from a jeweler. His collar is from Catier. As they say, diamonds are a cat's best friend."
My upper lip twitches. Nobody has ever said that. And I'm pretty sure she means Cartier.
She blows the cat a kiss, and I swear, if cats could smile, this one does, his giant face twisting with love or hunger.
"He's huge," I say, watching his tail flick a bit menacingly.
"He's a rare French breed, a Chartreux. He's just, how do you say? Big-boned?" She chortles out a laugh. "I really should put him on a regime like the 惫茅迟茅谤颈苍补颈谤别 said. He weighs nine kilos. Can you believe it? I strain my back when I try to pick him up. But he truly doesn't like les haricots verts or les courgettes. He's quite the gourmand."
My head spins with confusion. I wonder, What cat would like green beans and zucchini? as I convert the math in my head. Her cat weighs around twenty pounds. And, apparently, he hates vegetables but adores his bling.”

“Cardan is wearing a high jewelled collar of jet on a stiff black doublet. Over the top of his pointed ears are knifelike caps of gold, matching the gold along his cheekbones. His expression is remote.”
Holly Black, The Queen of Nothing

“Shadow initially seemed unaffected when I placed the thing around his neck. He has worn collars before, both the ordinary and faerie-made variety. But as we walked, his lumbering gait grew more graceful, and he paused frequently to sniff at things.
"What does it do?" Rose enquired.
"It's hobgoblin-made," I said. "They sometimes keep grims as guard dogs. The legend associated with it suggests that it will enhance Shadow's speed and senses.”
