“Why don鈥檛 you turn on the dawnzer?鈥� Ramona asked, proud of her new word.

Beezus looked up from her book. 鈥淲hat are you talking about?鈥� she asked Ramona.

鈥淲hat鈥檚 a dawnzer?鈥�

Ramona was scornful. 鈥淪illy. Everybody knows what a dawnzer is.鈥�

鈥淚 don鈥檛,鈥� said Mr. Quimby, who had been reading the evening paper. 鈥淲hat is a dawnzer?鈥�

鈥淎 lamp,鈥� said Ramona. 鈥淚t gives a lee light. We sing about it every morning in kindergarten.鈥�

A puzzled silence fell over the room until Beezus suddenly shouted with laughter.
