“Then she (Gossamer) turns to Jeb. "Elfin knight, do you wish for pleasure on your quest? I can provide it, if you so desire."

“They say that when you’re really in love, the world becomes gossamer and gorgeous, but in my experience the world gets grimy, and the love object is in stark relief from the surroundings. This is love, a pretty thing on an ugly street.”

“Then, recalling what he had said, she turned to him eagerly. “What’s my surprise?â€

Most Ancient turned and reached for something that was behind him. He picked it up and placed it in her arms, and it looked up at her with wide, curious eyes. It was what she had once been: tiny, a wisp of a thing, with a mischievous smile and a trusting, visible heart.

“Oh! she cried. She hugged it to her, against her badge. “What’s its name?

“Ask it, Most Ancient suggested.

“Who are you? she asked the diminutive, transparent creature in her arms, keeping her voice calm so that it wouldn’t be scared.

“New Littlest, it told her.

She was puzzled and almost frightened at first. The she thought, Of course! Most Ancient could not have always have been Most Ancient, and Thin Elderly must once have been something else. Even Fastidious well, maybe not. Perhaps she had always been Fastidious.

She cradled New Littlest, moving her hands as gently as possible around the fragile little thing, and turned back to ask Most Ancient what she needed to know.

“Who am I now?

“Gossamer,â€ he told her.”
Lois Lowry (Author)

“You’ve always brought out the softer side in my master. But he hasn’t changed. He’s as changeless as he is ageless. He’ll always be selfish, manipulative, untamable. He knows no other way to be, for he is all things Wonderland.”

“He’s been away from his home for some time. He had things to do. To prepare for your night together. Gossamer’s furred wings buzz into action, lifting her off my shoulder.
â€Âٳܰù±ð.â€ I smother a smile. “We both know he didn’t come because he would’ve been bored to tears. There’s too much orderliness for his liking.â€
She giggles in agreement—a tinkling sound that blends with the music.”

“That would be because she just drained the ocean, pet. Had to be a rather laborious feat, don't you think?"

My entire being shakes at the sound of that deep accent. Liquid, masculine, and sensual. It's him. my netherling guide. If only I could see past the smoke.

"Her apparel appears to be that of a scullery maid," Gossamer says, shooting me a disapproving glance. "Perhaps you should send her home and wait for another. Someone more acceptable."

"One who's naked shouldn't judge apparel," that familiar voice answers. "You well know that clothes do not the lady make.”

“The shape of remembrance etched
in the body's exertion, first leaf,
then foliage. Even the cathedral
with an empty backyard at night
clad in gossamer light from the moon.”

“My high-waisted peach pants were loose and billowing, gathered at the ankles with velvet cuffs of bright gold. The long sleeves of the matching top were made of gossamer, also gathered at the wrists, and the top itself hung just to my navel, revealing a sliver of skin as I walked.

Comfortable, easy to move in- to run. Feminine. Exotic.”
Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury
