“My love for her is stronger than my hatred of you.”
Maya Banks, Never Seduce a Scot

Lora Leigh
“You鈥檙e going to kill him fast?鈥滸raeme frowned, shedding his lab coat as Cullen handed him his weapon. 鈥淢y dear, we need to discuss the idea of true pain. You鈥檒l rue the day if you show him mercy. Shall we discuss the merits of torture instead 鈥︹€

The frightening part was the fact that she seemed all too willing to listen.”
Lora Leigh, Cross Breed

Suzan Tisdale
“Albert slid quietly from his horse and walked across a small clearing, and before Graeme knew what was happening, picked him up and threw him arse over toes into the cool water.
As the very stunned 鈥 and soon Albert would realize, quite angry 鈥 Graeme got his bearings and stood up, coughing and sputtering, Albert turned back to his horse.
At that point, a swarthy looking man, wearing a ridiculous looking tunic and an even more ridiculous pair of trews, jumped from behind two large boulders with his weapon drawn. 鈥淧repare to die, peasant,鈥 he shouted in French.
Albert raised a curious brow as he unsheathed his broadsword. The falchion the Frenchman had pointed at him was no match for his broadsword. 鈥淲ho the bloody hell are ye?鈥
鈥淚 am Remi Francois Claremont LeFavre,鈥 Remi answered with a slight bow and flourish. 鈥淏rother to the man you just threw into the lake and whose honor you have besmirched by your actions. Again, peasant, I tell you to prepare to die.鈥
Albert rolled his eyes and re-sheathed his sword. 鈥淚s this fool with ye?鈥 Albert asked Graeme.”

“She speaks French,鈥 Graeme muttered.
Traigh turned quite serious and nodded his head. 鈥淎ye, she be speakin鈥 French. Mayhap she learned it from listenin鈥 to ye and yer French friend speakin鈥 it these past days.鈥 Though his tone sounded serious, there was a decidedly sarcastic undertone to it.
鈥淵e knew,鈥 Graeme said as he glared angrily at his brother.
Traigh feigned innocence. 鈥淢oi?鈥
Graeme鈥檚 glare intensified. 鈥淲hy did ye no鈥 tell me? Why did she no鈥 tell me?鈥
Traigh smiled thoughtfully and placed a hand on Graeme鈥檚 shoulder . 鈥淵e did no鈥 ask.”

“I will no鈥 be tellin鈥 ye 鈥業 told ye so鈥, but I will be usin鈥 words to that effect.鈥 Marcum said as he sat behind the table in his study. 鈥淚 was right, aye?鈥
Graeme knew any attempt to deny that everyone else had been right would seem ludicrous. Instead, he paced around his father鈥檚 study, his mind sprinting from one thought to another.
鈥淎s was yer mum,鈥 Marcum said as he poured himself a cup of fine whisky. 鈥淎nd yer brothers. They were right as well.鈥
Graeme stopped pacing long enough to glare at his father.
The man sat tall and proud in his chair, a look of deep satisfaction etched on his face.
鈥淎re ye quite done?鈥
Marcum laughed, a deep, rumbling laugh that made his belly and shoulders shake. 鈥淲ell, the cook, stable master, and blacksmith knew it as well.鈥
Graeme let out a long heavy breath. 鈥淎ye, everyone on God鈥檚 earth knew but me.鈥
鈥淎ye, ye have the way of it, son.”

“Traigh began the taunting first. 鈥淧ray, tell me brother, be there any truth to these rumors floatin鈥 about the keep?鈥
Graeme shot him a look of warning. It didn鈥檛 do a bit of good.
鈥淲hat rumors be those, brother Traigh?鈥 Albert asked, feigning ignorance on the matter.
Traigh crossed his arms over his chest. 鈥淲hy, the rumors that our brother Graeme has fallen in love with our Joie. So much so that they will be married this verra day.鈥
Graeme had two choices. He could tell his brothers to shut their mouths and leave him be or he could stand like a man and admit the truth, at least as much of it as he could without looking like a fool.
鈥淎ye,鈥 he said as he stepped toward them. 鈥淭he rumors be true. I have fallen hopelessly in love with my Joie, and aye, we will be married this verra day. Before the evenin鈥 meal, in fact.鈥
Traigh and Albert were momentarily stunned at Graeme鈥檚 open admission. But 鈥檛was short-lived. Broad smiles broke out on their faces and soon, they were congratulating him with hugs and heavy slaps on the back.
When the celebrating was over, Traigh asked, 鈥淒o ye ken what ye鈥檙e to do this night? After the weddin鈥?鈥
Graeme鈥檚 smile evaporated almost instantly. 鈥淚f ye utter one unkind, disrespectful word as it pertains to consummation and me wife, I swear, I will beat ye within an inch of yer life.鈥
Traigh quickly wiped away the smile and attempted to appear serious and fully chastised. 鈥淎ye, Albert, he be in love, let there be no doubt.”

“Irline crossed her arms over her chest and stared up at him, her curiosity quite evident. 鈥淎 boon?鈥
鈥淎ye, just one boon.鈥
鈥淭ell me what boon it be that ye seek. I鈥檒l no鈥 say aye or nay until I hear it.鈥
He was quite thankful that she was at least willing to listen. 鈥淟et me have just a few moments with Joie, alone, without all the women around.鈥
鈥淎re ye daft?鈥 she asked with a most serious tone.
鈥淎ye, I fear so,鈥 he said as he offered her a warm smile. 鈥淎ll I ask is fer a few moments alone with her. I鈥檒l even keep the door open and ye can watch to make certain I do no鈥 do anythin鈥 either one of us would be ashamed of.鈥
Irline studied him closely for several long moments, sizing him up, looking for any hint of insincerity or deceit. Finally, she gave a curt nod of her head. 鈥淰erra well,鈥 she said.
Graeme was so overcome with relief that he scooped her up and hugged her. 鈥淧ut me down, now, Graeme MacAulay!鈥 she said as she smacked the back of his head.
He was still smiling when he carefully set her back on her feet. 鈥淭hank ye, Irline, from the bottom of me heart.鈥
鈥淒o no鈥 thank me yet, Graeme. If yer mum finds out, I鈥檒l lie and tell her ye held us all at sword point.鈥
鈥溾€ Tis a risk I be willin鈥 to take,鈥 he said.”
