“Full many a gem of purest ray serene,
The dark unfathom'd caves of ocean bear:
Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste its sweetness on the desert air.”

“I ran across an excerpt today (in English translation) of some dialogue/narration from the modern popular writer, Paulo Coelho in his book: Aleph.(Note: bracketed text is mine.)... 'I spoke to three scholars,' [the character says 'at last.'] ...two of them said that, after death, the [sic (misprint, fault of the publisher)] just go to Paradise. The third one, though, told me to consult some verses from the Koran. [end quote]' ...I can see that he's excited. [narrator]' ...Now I have many positive things to say about Coelho: He is respectable, inspiring as a man, a truth-seeker, and an appealing writer; but one should hesitate to call him a 'literary' writer based on this quote. A 'literary' author knows that a character's excitement should be 'shown' in his or her dialogue and not in the narrator's commentary on it. Advice for Coelho: Remove the 'I can see that he's excited' sentence and show his excitement in the phrasing of his quote.(Now, in defense of Coelho, I am firmly of the opinion, having myself written plenty of prose that is flawed, that a novelist should be forgiven for slipping here and there.)Lastly, it appears that a belief in reincarnation is of great interest to Mr. Coelho ... Just think! He is a man who has achieved, (as Leonard Cohen would call it), 'a remote human possibility.' He has won lots of fame and tons of money. And yet, how his preoccupation with reincarnation—none other than an interest in being born again as somebody else—suggests that he is not happy!”

“Human potential is amazing...We have the capacity to create a world that is peaceful...one that spreads kindness and love rather than hatred. If we believe it to be so, it will be our truth, and we will create it.”

“What…defines a person as a unique individual? A natural disposition? A face? A vocabulary of gestures? Are we born individuals…or do we mold ourselves into unique creatures through our experiences and accomplishments? Every human enters the world with a vast, incalculable potential. But myriad factors invariably conspire to prevent us from fully achieving that potential.”

“Who would you be if you had somehow avoided every tenacious impediment in the invisible bacterial obstacle course of your daily life? Or what if, through some miracle of science...there was a way to cleanse the detritus that has cumulatively contaminated your genes since before you were even born? Who would you be today? Would you be the same person; the same unique individual? Or would you be something more?”

“We are each one being with access to multiple dimensions guiding us toward our full human potential. The soul is vast and endless. The ego is actively on guard, yet also necessary to befriend. The body is a rich source of information along the path towards self-awareness, and the psyche works creatively towards permeability across ordinary and extraordinary states of consciousness. The spiritual realm is available, loving, and supportive, should we choose to open ourselves to receive it. Life is a continuum of all things seen and unseen, dancing and interacting as one reality, revealing itself to us as we reveal ourselves to it.”

“What is the point of you? What is your worth? And by worth I am not talking about your financial value, I am talking about something much more significant than that. So, I ask again - what is your worth? And you won't find the answer in any scripture or church - you won't find it even in this book. Because no external power can give you the answer to something so incredibly existential in nature.
If you want to know your worth, ask yourself, what are you without your bank account. The worth of a person lies in character. The same goes for a nation and the same goes for a world. Therefore, a nation's worth lies not in the value of its currency, but in the character of its people. And it all begins with the individual - it all begins with you. Your character holds not just the worth of your own life, but that of the lives of your people as well. So, feel like it's the feeling of your society and act like it's the action of your society.
But mark you, here I do not mean, feeling and acting like the society, rather, I am asking you to feel, think and act as an original, brave and conscientious human being, so that you become the very emblem of humanhood in front of others, for them to draw their life’s inspiration from. Doing what the society wants, makes you a second hand human - wanting the society to do what you want, makes you a narcissistic bigot - but being an embodiment of humanhood without any expectation from others, is what makes you a sentient human.”

“If humans can be taught, they can be taught anything. If humans can learn, they can unlearn and relearn anything. If humans can be taught and can learn, there should be no excuses not to provide them with opportunities. In fact, perhaps all a person needs is an opportunity, as they already possess the inherent capacity to learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

“[T]he most radical theorists... are not critics of the educational system in the usual sense, because they are not interested first and foremost in schooling. They are interested less in teaching and learning than in growth, dignity, autonomy, freedom, and the development of the full range of human potentialities." (p. 17)”

“God smiles to calm me and it works. He says, 'They don't realize what they're losing when they bring suffering upon themselves in the name of God. Great art must always have balance. I did not create humanity to suffer. However, suffering is unavoidable. It's a component of life. To bring additional suffering upon oneself is a waste of human potential.”

“The Christ has no form, for it is omnipresent. As the ocean is present in each of its drops, but no drop can be identified with the whole ocean, so the universal Spirit of Christ was manifested in Jesus, but could not be even remotely defined in terms of his human form. All souls who attain the state of oneness with the Christ consciousness lose, inwardly, their sense of fundamental individuality and become what are called masters. All of them are equals of Jesus Christ. Jesus was not born on earth to show people how great he was. He came to show us the greatness of our own divine potential.”
