I truly didn’t have a clue how it’d wrap up. There were many little twists and turns I never expected, but it managed to still feel organic. ...more
I really enjoyed this book! I love a good memoir, but this one read like fiction. In a good way. I kept reaching to pick it back up. I live in SeattleI really enjoyed this book! I love a good memoir, but this one read like fiction. In a good way. I kept reaching to pick it back up. I live in Seattle & got a lot of joy from knowing the exact spots she was writing about. I *think* I even picked up this book at her brother-in-law’s bookstore! There’s something special about being right in the thick of the setting itself.
The writing itself was strong, too. If you’re a woman, especially a woman in tech, and especially a woman struggling with making peace with it, this book will give you comfort. And laughter. And maybe make you think again about your life choices.
I’m very glad Kristi finally got the courage to leave her corporate life behind! She was always meant to write....more

That’s the best thing I can say aboutIt took me far too long to finish this book, but after a certain point I was determined to close this story out! That’s the best thing I can say about it, really: it hooked me enough to finish it.
The character development & writing style didn’t work for me. It felt like it was trying way too hard. I laughed out loud many times reading these characters internal monologues. It took me out of it.
The final twist was okay! I didn’t see it coming, so I appreciate the surprise. But who Sarah Morgan ended up with didn’t make any sense whatsoever.
Overall, it you’re into murder mysteries & don’t mind cliches, give it a go. Maybe it’ll land better for you than me!...more
**spoiler alert** CW: sexual abuse, child abuse, suicide, dead bodies. This book was good then weird then good then what the hell?!

I really enjoyed inching into this world initially. I enjoyed the mixture of vampire & 80s housewife dilemma in front of a book club backdrop.
But there was some completely unnecessary sexual abuse storylines involving children that made me reaaal frustrated. Some chosen details of the vampire storyline that felt creepy in all the wrong ways.
I enjoyed it enough, but wouldn’t read it again....more
Ya know this was a cute read. One of the quotes on the cover says “good fun, and that sums it up perfectly.

It fell apart a little at the end for me & it had a handful of cringey moments, but I notoriously roll my eyes at any and all romance tropes. I predicted the twist almost immediately, but it was quick. It was fun. It was cheeky. I’m happy I picked it up, and also I wouldn’t re-read it.
If I could give it 2.5 or 2.75 stars, I would. That more accurately sums my experience.
If you’re looking for a light romcom, check it out!...more

I was a big fan oThis book got me out of a reading slump, so KUDOS to Rene Denfeld for that! Overall, a unique narrative with some wonderful writing. I was a big fan of most of the characters but found the protagonist, Naomi, a bit one dimensional and cliche. Still interesting to follow, but not as interesting as I think Denfeld intended her to be. My only other annoyance with the book was the unnecessary, endless “one sentence wonders I like to call them. The structure of this story flashed back and forth between other characters primary point of view, and there were so many cliches at the end of each narrative break... I honestly laughed out loud a few times. In those moments, it felt like the author was trying too hard. Just wasn’t working for me. BUT AGAIN! I’m only talking about the constructive feedback that ultimately took it down from 5 stars to 4. It really was a great read. Excited to read more from this author!...more
