But in all seriousness, I enjoyed the fantastical descriptions and the discussions on faith. The latter really got me thinking about faith in general which I didn’t expect to happen while reading this book.
“You think that the way you perceive the world is the way it actually is, but you cannot perceive the external world directly, none of us can. Instead, we know only our ideas or interpretations of objects in the world. The human brain is a marvellously evolved organ, my friend, and it is especially good at constructing images of faces and voices from limited information.
“What makes faith so powerful is that it requires no proof. Just belief.

Hyacinth, my beloved. My brilliant and bright Hyacinth Bridgerton. You were so precious here. Probably my favourite Bridgerton protagonist.
Out of all the books in the series, this one was the hardest for me to start. Usually, I would start listening to one of the books and get immediately attached, but this one took a minute.
I loved how her and Gareth’s relationship started out as a friendship and him reaching out to her with help solving a mystery. Having a mystery plot instead of a relationship-centric one made this book more interesting to me (so, yes, I did get attached to the book eventually lol). But he and Hyacinth had such fun banter. I wish we had more time between that friendship before he made the choice to want to marry her (especially since I absolutely LOVED that quote I included here and them together once they were engaged).
They might be my favourite pairing and I cannot wait to see them on screen (in probably a decade rip). I honestly bumped it up to the top of my list closer to the end of the book with the little mystery on birthright and the discussion on Hyacinth’s dowry with Gareth’s wealth. Not to mention that I would definitely reread this book when I get the chance to better appreciate it.
Also that scene with Anthony happy to get Hyacinth out of his hands was top tier.

The most intriguing part of the synopsis was that Lisa Marie Presley started and asked Riley Keough to finish it. I don’t even know much about Elvis life or movies except for all the biopics that came out in recent years (that I haven’t seen).
Still, I thought this would’ve been interesting to read. It was so gripping to see a dual perspective of a mother and daughter on events and one’s life, especially when Lisa’s life was so raw, tragic, and challenging. And then how those events reflected and affected Riley and her siblings. One of those moment stuck out when Lisa was recounting how she met Riley’s father and then Riley starts her part with something like “that’s not how my father remembers it.
I do recommend the audiobook since we got snippets of the tapes that Riley mentions. ...more

I didn’t plan on reading this book, but it showed up while I was scrolling the library and I figured that the best insight into this predicament would be from someone who actually (and unfortunately) lived it.
I greatly commend Shari Franke for writing and narrating the audiobook.
This story was heartbreaking, vulnerable, raw—and I couldn’t put it down. I honestly don’t know what more I could say outside of feeling appreciative that I read this memoir. Even if you don’t know about 8 Passengers and everything that went down, I recommend reading this book for even the child’s perspective of their family vlogging channel. (Not saying every family is like this, but it gives one look behind the scenes).
I hope Shari and her family get the peace and healing they deserve ...more

God, I never thought I’d read a Loch Ness monster romance but here we are? I feel like I was falsely advertised but I’m not too mad about it I didn’t have me reading a monster romance on my 2025 bingo card.
This review will not be coherent.
The first chapter having a hoard of sheep is an amazing start. And then we got COWS! HIGHLAND COWS! Should’ve started with the cows but can’t be picky. Highland cows being mentioned a lot after, essentially being the animal of choice, and being referred to as “big puppies is 10/10.
The audiobook narrators were amazing. I loved the accents.
I honestly didn’t expect the mythical aspects with the Beauty and the Beast references, but they made the book so much more interesting to me and then it became a monster romance and I was kinda like HELLO?
The book dragged a little in the middle. It could’ve been more concise but oh well, has to make room for the monster smut lmao.
Lachlan was very very very very VERY hot. Need I elaborate? Dream man. And him also being a highland cow farmer? Marry me. Him and Keyanna were so cute and I enjoyed reading them fall in love and solve all the family mysteries.
85% in the book I realized the punny title (lmao). ...more

“Looking at the schoolchildren in the playground, I can’t help but think that this is the direction in which the rest of the world should be heading: becoming a place where cultures and race have intermingled so completely that it doesn’t matter where one’s ancestors are from. What matters is the life we create for ourselves in the place we call home.
This is another of my late reads for Lunar/Chinese New Year. I normally don’t read this genre, but I was craving Asian food and found this as a good compromise.
Also, can confirm, the titular title is the Asian way of asking how are you. I live far away from home and often get asked that instead. It’s heartwarming.
I learned a lot in here, from Chinese migration and diaspora to the evolution of Chinese food in different countries across the world. As a mixed kid, I heavily related to reading how the Chinese culture mixed and melded with other cultures. ...more

Guys, I’m finally reading a Freida McFadden book after having The Housekeeper on my physical TBR for a long time. That was one reason I picked up this book. Another was that I’m a teacher at the moment, so I figured why not give this a shot.
While I was skeptical given that there are mixed reviews for this book on here, I wasn’t mad about it. I clearly enjoyed this rollercoaster and was desperate to know how it ended.
I was honestly hooked from the start and grateful for that since I haven’t really read some books in a while that gave me that feeling. Addie and Eve were such compelling narrators who were so messed up in different ways that I needed to know more on what was going on (and what has happened before the events of the book. Dare I say that I would’ve loved for this to be a duology or even get a prequel).
If I had one little critique, I would’ve gotten to part two faster but I’m not complaining lol.
This was so fucked up lmao I enjoyed the crap out of it. I will be reading McFadden’s other books for sure now.
Maybe I need the literature people who over analyze things to give me potential reasons for Eve’s shoe addiction. (view spoiler)[ Like maybe she associates it with her affair, where she felt desired for once. Or honestly what woman doesn’t like a good pair of heels. (hide spoiler)]
(view spoiler)[ If your competition is a 16 year old girl key word: GIRL then your husband is the fucking problem. Also her husband being all “ah yes me kissing a 16 year old which is considered a consenting adult in the state is somehow not as bad as your shoe hoarding problem HELLO? What a psycho. At first, I was honestly thinking that Addie was delusional, but then Nathanael I hate men. (hide spoiler)]
At the end of the day, I support women’s rights and wrongs for legal reasons, that applies most of the time.
AND I'M SORRY LOL WHAT WAS THAT EPILOGUE? BAHAHAHA HELLO?...more

Miss. Amanda Lovelace might be one of my favourite contemporary poets. Everything by her that I read is so relatable to my own life and experiences.
In this book in particular, I loved the “her books say poems. I would say that I’m pretty good at expressing myself through prose and story characters (better than irl), but then she comes out of the woodwork with this:
“it’s a curious thing, isn’t it, how an artist can turn their hurt into something so stunning that it has the power to save strangers, but it doesn’t have the power to save the artist themselves?
Violated. Especially with where I am right now in my life.

I don’t think I processed what was going on for most of the book. I felt like I was waiting for the actual mystery to start. I was bored and couldn’t focus on this book, but after seeing the many positive reviews, it’s clearly a me problem.
But I did enjoy listening to Cordelia. She has a fun and interesting narrative style that made her charming. Maybe she was the reason o stuck around.
