FolloAn year after I started reading this saga, I can finally (and sadly) say that my journey in this beautiful and chaotic world has come to an end. Following this series was a roller coaster of emotions. From the very first moment, An Ember in the Ashes found its place in my heart. It had been the first fantasy series I had read and we never forget our first loves, do we? It was hard to finish the last book and it took me a while because I already knew what was in store for me: tears, pain, happiness, nostalgia. But it is exactly those books that mark us and that stay with us for a long time. In this one-year period, I have seen our Laia, Helene and Elias evolve in an absurdly incredible way and make difficult, contradictory and painful decisions. They have become people I am proud of, ever stronger, kinder and most of all human. Helene was the protagonist I fell in love with the most because the inner strength of that woman is unthinkable. Everything she went through, everything she suffered and lost, was not easy. She was completely broken and shattered, but like a phoenix she was reborn from the ashes and her torch did not go out, even though there were moments that her fire threatened to be extinguished. The secondary characters themselves made the journey of Elias, Laia and Helene more beautiful and tribulous and were very necessary for the unfolding of the story. Afya, Rehmat, Mamie Rila, Livia, Lizzy, Mirra, Laia, Helene and Keris herself are examples of women who in their own way were powerful and highlighted how strong we can be and how strong we really are. Regarding Keris and The Nightbringer, they were exceptional villains (even though I hate Keris with everything I have, I need to acknowledge that), but I confess that I expected a little more physical and emotional suffering from Keris for all that she did, however I found the ending of the two to be fitting. Finally, I would like to highlight Sabaa's ability to hold us to every page of the books and to involve us in her advices in such a way that it is able to confront us and make us think about our reality. I have many other favorite quotes because her writing is full of teachings, but I think the meaning of the expression "Emifal Firdaant" is the most beautiful and the most profound in the entire novel. I end this adventure with a heavy and nostalgic heart....more
