(view spoiler)[ Holly always writes books that resonate so deeply with me. April's character and her attachment style is very similar to mine where i am also an extremely anxious person and have striven to adopt a cool girl persona of an aloof uncaring gal.
However, one thing I disliked was its depiction of how sexual assault feels. As a SA survivor I felt this dminished my experience because the aftermath of mine did not feel how the author was telling it. I understand this is from April's perspective, but it made me question mine and how mine didn't feel similar to this.
Another thing that irked me was Joshua staying - I didn't find that realistic at all I think what April did was FUCKING CRAZY and any sane person would be running for the hills.
Don't know if I'm just stupid but i was not understanding a lot of the book. like yeah i got it in order to become free and be your most human you havDon't know if I'm just stupid but i was not understanding a lot of the book. like yeah i got it in order to become free and be your most human you have to embrace and open yourself up to x y and z but really no concrete steps on how to do any of those other than ~trust God~ which is fine if you are a christian or religious, but i was not any of those. some points on forgiveness and loneliness were good, but the majority of the time i was reading passages and thinking to myself what is he even SAYING!! which is not how you want your reading experience to typically go.
Thank you Hassan for lending me your copy! I googled books on loneliness and dealing with that stuff and this was a suggested book, but not my cup of tea. I don't think it really was about the root of my issues....more

(view spoiler)[ i really enjoyed this one, i docked one star merely because cheating is just so easy not to do and i thought it was kind of a cop out for this book. I think it would have been more powerful if the conflict wasn't something so cut and dry like cheating (just don't cheat on your partner iTS NOT THAT FUCKING HARD) and the author showed the breakup that occurred. Breaking up doesn't always need to stem from adultery or issues such as that, sometimes, people just don't work out and that's okay! (hide spoiler)]...more
