It felt like reading a ghostwritten book by someone who had no idea about the characters or the plot or anything. Literally half of it was a London tour. The second timeline with the murder took ages to start. And then Stevie Bell without a case is literally a husk of a character. She says it herself. She has no goals, no plans, no ambitions aside from solving murder cases. She's lying to her friends when they're in the middle of acquiring recommendations and interviews for college apps all so they can solve a stupid murder??? And then, what's with the frequent sex mentions all the damn time?? She had two modes in this book: brain-dead idiot and horny for David. Speaking of which, what even was going on with them in the end??? I assume there'll be more books, but if they're gonna be like this, I'm not reading them....more

Also I noticed that we don't get Stevie's thought process very well. I mean we get her confusion, we get the lightbulbs going off in ger head, but we never get how she reaches her conclusions. This would all be fine if she wasn't the narrator, only the detective, like in old detective fiction, but she is and it's kinda frustrating to see we never get how her brain works to solve all these cold cases....more
OH MY OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I LOVED EVERYTHING IN THIS BOOK SO, SO MUCH!!!!!!! TheOH MY OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I LOVED EVERYTHING IN THIS BOOK SO, SO MUCH!!!!!!! The Goose Girl is one fairytale that I never read so I was quite literally going blind into the book. I loved that we got the perspective of the villain of the original tale, and the themes and commentary on the power and privilege rich people hold, especially the power imbalance that the working class has to always face. The best part perhaps, despite the plot being a little meandering, is that the friendships and character development took the centre stage in this story. The side characters had equal screen time despite Vanja being the narrator. I loved, loved, loved Ragne, and how she balanced her relationships with both Vanja and Gisele. I loved Joniza and her practical, no-nonsense approach that would put the group back on track if they started squabbling too much. I absolutely loved Emeric oh my god!!!!!!!!!! What a genius of a boy, and it turns out he's demisexual????? I was so floored by that casual rep dropped in (wow, my standards are on the floor). Most of all, I adored Vanja. She reminded me quite a bit of Kaz, and the way she got herself out of every mess—man, I aspire to have her resourcefulness and skill. I loved the slow burn romance between her and Emeric. There were so much banter and hilarity and fluff before they even confessed to each other, I ate up everything they gave me happily. The world was a little confusing but I liked the gods and the scene of the trial has to be one of my favorite scenes in any piece of literature seriously. In short, oh my goodness, why isn't this book famous!?!?!?!?!?!...more
