This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. I’m not even sure where to start but for me it was definitely a 5 star read, worth it for the end. The novel started with Kenji and Juliette and goodies I LOVED Kenji throughout this book, he’s probably the funniest and sassiest man I ever read. And uhm, the first scene was Kenji practically cutting Warner’s hair, LOVELY. I kind of like that Aaron showed so many emotions in this book, you’ll probably think he’s a hot sociopath and that might be true but there’s so much more about this man that makes it unreal. The first part of the book is basically Juliette adjusting to her new life of the Supreme Commander of the North America, which is crazy.. like she met Haider IN A PINK SWEATER?? Gosh, Juliette, remind me to dress better than you. But yeah, even though she has badass powers she has a lot more to learn, A LOT. We learn more about Kenji too (besides him being hot and all that) he shares personal info with Juliette and we find out what happened to his parents. OH, and he makes it obvious now that he’s in love with Nazeera (Haider’s sister). ABOUT HER, she’s probably my favorite female character of the book. Calm, smart and calculated basically Aaron if he was a girl but without the sociopath tendencies (jokes I love him). From the moment she stepped into the book, I felt I could trust her and my instincts were RIGHT, she saved Juliette’s life. Now back to Warner, we find more about his past and what he’s been through as a kid. It’s funny how I thought he couldn’t show so much emotion but in this book it was clearly otherwise. I truly felt bad for him at some point especially when Juliette broke up with him. YEAH, BROKE UP. It was a scene that broke my heart too but I’m glad he was honest with her about her parents and that they were alive. After Juliette left.. well! Warner had a panic attack. AND GUESS who stepped in?? My lovely Kenji. The scene where Kenji asked Warner “Did she shoot you again? Had me CACKLING but I appreciate his concern for Aaron who doesn’t even like him at all. That’s one of the moments Warner is actually vulnerable and throughout the book now you’ll find scenes with him showing emotion like with Castle when he found out about Juliette’s past. Juliette gets shot. WE DON’T KNOW WHO. But as I said Nazeera saves her and that’s when she starts getting those memories from the asylum when she was little. In every chapter of her POV you’ll find excerpts from her journal and it devastates me. She’s been THROUGH A LOT as child. Warner tries to get Juliette back and she of course runs away. I expected that not gonna lie. BUT GOSH my man Aaron is head over heels for Juliette, he truly loves her maybe more than she loves him. We also find out he speaks seven languages like, okay habibi. Throughout the book we also meet more characters like the children of the commanders (forgot their names but I do remember Valentina who’s actually a boy? lmao) and.. Lena. Warner’s ex girlfriend. Funny, right? Big drama again and when Warner and Juliette finally talk about it he says it was PURELY PHYSICAL. Maybe it’s the first time I’ve seen Aaron stupid to say such thing to his Juliette. ALMOST FORGOT that Juliette shaved her hair while being drunk in Anderson’s headquarters. She’s clearly badass now, I mean, they are matching!! At the end of the book during the symposium with um 554 chief commanders and regents, Juliette talks about the Reestablishment something about literature bla bla, the audience gets mad and someone tries to harm her again. She loses control of her powers and screams STOP IT! And well, they did! Everyone dies. Warner, Kenji and the other people alive are dragged away and Juliette is on the floor, frozen. After that there’s a chapter from Warner’s POV with blank pages. If I told you he’s head over heels about Juliette, you already guess what that means. Without her, Aaron is basically nothing. Blank. Juliette meets the supreme commander of Oceania before she blacks out, they say something like ‘Your father and I have come to take you home LIKE WHAT?? IS she her biological mom? I got lot of questions, really. At the very very end we get the biggest plot twist. Juliette’s real name is Ella. As she wakes up Juliette finds herself in a children's room. Disoriented and curious, she looks for any signs or clues that might help her remember and finds letters and polaroid pictures. She has a sister Emmeline who’s still locked in a water tank and Nazeera is basically her childhood bff. Aaron and Ella are childhood friends too. THEY’VE KNOWN each other since kids but neither of them remember. The end....more
