I saw an interview saying that the next book she won’t have a rigid deadline and she will work on it probably late this year (2025). I am glad she is taking time for mental health and family. I would much rather an author take care of themselves instead of feeling like they HAVE to get a book out. For one, it’s not healthy and family suffers. So does the writing.
I will be looking forward to the next one. I hope the less pressure helps her write a smoother book ...more

II was so excited to see a new book coming from KMM. I've been waiting since it was announced. I was extremely disappointed in the final Fever book. I had given her the benefit of the doubt, knowing she had been sick when writing it, but it was just such a ginormous letdown overall.
So, I was hoping to see refreshed writing with this book. Well.....that was different. The world building is non-existant. You have absolutely no clue what the town looks like, or who or what the inhabitants that live there are (except for maybe three sentences about "pale bloods") The whole thing seemed so rushed, no building things up at all.
The Kellan bit left you really hanging. It would have been better if we hadn't known his name and there was a bit more mystery about the whole exchange and meeting, if that makes sense. Wouldn't seem so much of an untied thread the entire book. I just kept thinking, where the hell is Kellan going to pop back up. If he had been nameless, it would have been a bit more mysterious.
Zo is likeable at the beginning, however, by the middle I wanted to smack her. Wishy washy, doesn't like to anything anyone has to say. In the situation she's in, she's quite the loose cannon and just making things worse acting like a brat.
Anyways ****POSSIBLE SPOILER for the end.
My question, why the sudden and weird change in Este towards the end. She totally snubbed her by the text and was not acting herself.
Seems like there is either a "Highlander series" easter egg/crossover/cameo also with the MacKelter mention at the end.
I will read the next one, but I won't be in a big hurry when it's released like I was with this one....more

I will read the next book, since I am invested in this series, and I am just hoping this one was just a book that didn't click with me.
