This was so good. The romance between Briana and Jacob was elite. I’ve got to say, that man knows his way with words. Otherwise from Jacob and his mouth, what the fuck was up with that big chunk of miscommunication and misunderstandings. I swear, I nearly flung the book across the room and DNF’d the book. I’m so glad I powered through, because that ending was so beautifully done and fitting for the characters. Would def re-read again!...more

Overall, this was a fun read for me. The romance was literally so good! While not as great as many other romances out there, I still found myself loving the romance between Gideon and Rune. Despite loving their romance, I did find myself having some faults with the speed at how their relationship was moving, but the end made up for it, and I can't wait to read book 2!
Rune Winters. I loved her character down! She was so brave and determined, and I enjoyed that about her. I'm still a little disappointed we didn't get to see her more in action as the Crimson Moth. I disliked the fact that she, at times, didn't think things through and acted hastily, which inadvertently got her into danger on a couple of occasions.
Gideon Sharpe. Where do I start with this ever conflicting character? I have a love and hate relationship. I hate him because of what he does, that is, hunting witches, but I loved him with Rune, I loved his love for her, and I especially loved how he was as a big brother. Not to mention, his backstory is ever so sad, and my heart bleeds for him.
Alex Sharpe. I don't have much to say about him except that he's a great friend and he didn't deserve that ending, but oh well. I did find him at times to be selfish, and it was off-putting, but I did enjoy his character.
Overall, the book was good, the characters were good, and while the book was character centric, I still enjoyed it a whole lot! Can't wait to read book 2!...more

The characters were unlikeable and made stupid decisions. The book was full of anti black sentiment and none of the colorist and prejudiced comments made by any characters were necessary to the story. They literally served no purpose and added nothing to the story. Not to mention, the end felt unrealistic(how tf did their partners forgive them after what they did???) and I’m still upset about the fact that isobel didn’t get what she deserved. Also, I felt as if there were a lot of unnecessary information that was just dropped into the book. I only really enjoyed near the end, which still wasn’t good, but was immersive. Last thing, I hope my baby Ronke has a good life, though she was a bit annoying at times....more
