Irene has a lot of progress in her relationships ship with both Kai and Vale in this one (Vale is in this one a lot) all the characters seemed "deeper" and more realistic than in the previous books. This book also lost the repetitive-ness that I was complaining about in the last book. It was completely unpredictable with tons of unexpected turns, a really creative plot. My only complaint is that sometimes it was a little TOO creative and I got lost like "wait, who did what?" Or "not quite sure what they're referring to anymore but ...more

Irene seemed a little bit warmer/kinder than the previous books and the progress between Irene and Kai was nice. As an American, the whole British + American thing was interesting and funny. Also a lot more wholesome than the others in this snice. This one had especially less gore which was nice. Has some curse words including d***, s**t, c**p but less than the others. My only complaint is that the series is getting... well, not exactly predictable but sort of repetitive. Irene has to steal a book, gets into trouble and eventually escapes by whatever means. It lacks depth. The friendship between Irene and Kai added some interest to the story but it's a very small part of the books, not much talking between them or anything besides trying to solve a mystery or get out of a scrape....more

I'm not going to be terribly detailed but I don't really like Irene. She's strictly business all the time, seemingly invincible emotionally and is kind of mean imo especially towards Kai. She is always only reprimanding him, hardly ever praises him and doesn't show him that she cares in any way for him even as a friend. Irene never demonstrates any feelings of gratitude, thankfulness ect. Towards Kai or Vale (she does think it some times though). Seeing the story from Kai's perspective, Irene is just an unkind, ungrateful, unemotional commander who doesn't seem to care about Kai let alone love him. I just find Irene overall too business like and inhuman. She's not very relatable because she doesn't have much of a personality besides being all about business and commanding. Also, Irene's relationships are terribly slow with both Vale and Kai with little to no friendly/casual dialog between Irene and either of them.
Contains D*** quite a few times (such as d*** it/her/she/them ect.) Has the F word twice, B word a couple times as well. I wish it didn't have all this junk, it's unnecessary and draws you out of the story. It'd be a lot more wholesome if it didn't have the cursing. 3.5 stars for this one. I'm reading the next one but not as excited for it as I was after reading #2...more

Definitely less dark overall than the first one with way less violence and less intense in that aspect (most violence is a knife stabbing scene). It was also way better than the first book as far as entertainment as well. Way better written imo, less confusion and way more clear than the first (I was pretty confused often in the first book) and read it shamefully fast ...more

It's extremely creative and unique with an unexpected plot and a lot of unexpected twists. I ton happened in this book. However, I found that a lot of times it was pretty confusing and lacked explanation. In fact, for the first half of the book I wasn't sure was many terms they used meant like "alternates" and "chaos infected" and it took a very long time for it to be explained. The way it is written I got lost several times and had to reread something to work out what was actually happening. It also had a dark overall feel which wasn't my favorite.
3.5 stars, entertaining, unique and not predictable but has a dark vibe and not extremely wholesome. Use of curse words including B* and D* it. Some parts were very slow paced (mostly conversation) and hard to follow....more

It's unique and differs from the typical shallow, santa-focused, cheerie Christmas story and has action and depth. However, imo it goes too far and for me at least lost all christian vibe and has relatively no joy. I understand some people like books like this but imo it was a very painful story that seems to end on yet another painful note with Agios *SPOILER* merely accepting his role to bring hope but still not embracing his endless life with jot *SPOILER END* This would have been such a great book had it had just a little more joy/cozy scenes and maybe an epiloge where Agios is displayed as a jolly, or at least satisfied, man. 3.5 stars...more

Written pretty awfully, boring storylineOnly read this because I had nothing else to read and ended up throwing it away for several different reasons. Written pretty awfully, boring storyline (nothing really happens) and a very abrupt ending. I wouldn't recommend it to children (but too boring for adults either) because there's some unwholesome parts and bad influences (kids sneaking to visit uncle's night club, eavesdropping on adults' private conversations ect.) Also a pastor who says "you must first love yourself to be able to fully love someone else"...more
