this had its cute and emotional moments and i think if you liked book 1 you could enjoy this!

tbh i liked this more than yours truly & part of your world but something about this fell really flat for me. the characters had a lot of trauma and stuff going on but i felt like their personalities were so bland?? they had the depth of complex characters but they were just boring. i feel like she wrote these characters in such a forced way . like yes xavier was a green flag but it’s so obvious he’s written like that, characters need to be written realistically down to their personality. they had realistic trauma but it didn’t really match them, besides xavier he seemed to face his issues.
spoiler alert!!!: when samantha mentioned the issue with her mom not recognizing her we just never touched back on that topic…like ever. we never got to see how she truly dealt with it, i feel like we brushed that over but dealing with a loved one in that way im sure it’s soul crushing everyday they don’t remember you!!! and she was fine??? like with xavier with got the moment with dr.rush or whatever his name is and that felt more like closure to his trauma.
like when the fmc mentioned going to a panderia later in the book i had to remember she was mexican because no part of her felt that way! no references to her heritage but she wanted to talk about xavier’s white man privilege (which is very real) but like girl you’re not far off! i’m not saying i wanted the dramatic-ness of how most authors fetishize latinas, but c’mon if you’re married to a latino at least include something!
spoilers (again) anyways the pacing was off, im unsure how i feel about the dad’s infidelity, and this just was lacking in something /:...more

and while i think this story is told really well, i just honestly could not stand the writing style. the characters were just overtly the stereotypical “awkward moody teenager who just wants to be left alone and don’t get me wrong i understand why but i think this book missed the mark by like 10 years.
“You could call me Monday. Nobody likes Mondays.
genuinely nobody talks like this, it’s giving facebook mom stealing old tumblr quotes and posting them on her page.
i just don’t think the writing style was enjoyable at all for me, i couldn’t take it serious when i wanted to. and this honestly saddens me because i think the plot was so so good, it’s just the writing /:
all in all i enjoyed the story not the writing which in the end ruined it for me, i think if you’re able to look past it then this book can be enjoyable, i see why people have loved it but i am not of them.

ever since the spanish love deception ive been extremely reluctant to pick up another book by elena and that was for good reason! her writing style and plots are never for me! this could’ve been shorter, plus what is the obsession with making the fmc’s so quirky and awkward! i definitely think this was better than sld by a landslide but it wasn’t good enough to become a favorite of mine sadly. it was mediocre at best.
this is definitely for people in search of small town’s, fake dating/engagement, no third act (thankfully), and a very sunshine/sunshine couple. this was marketed as a standalone but i definitely think i should’ve read the long game prior to this since the characters overlap heavily and it did have me confused at first but this overall wasn’t for me sadly.

i’m honestly saddened by how much this ended up disappointing me. i didn’t read the blurb but i saw a pretty cover and that was enough for me but alas im disappointed once again by my own doing. this lacked originality, plot, and likeable main characters. you would think that because this is labeled as enemies to lovers they would actually be enemies but there was so much insta-lust and attraction that it completely contradicted it. i didn’t feel any sort of chemistry between nyra and dacre besides them finding each other hot which really was so boring.
minor spoilers
we learn at one point dacre had never done something since the passing of his mother but he did it for nyra after a few conversations? all because he felt a pull towards her? spoilers over
like i just sat there confused cause ive seen two rocks with more chemistry like you couldn’t ask me to describe the buildup into their relationship cause there was none!! this mmc was such a walking ick, i cannot stand when authors allow fmc’s to be humiliated time after time and im supposed to be attracted to that?? when dacre told her she had no backbone he really meant it ...more
these books aren’t for me. i’m not a fan of the mix-in of vampires and modern age unless it’s done exceptionally well, which i’ve yet to find in thesethese books aren’t for me. i’m not a fan of the mix-in of vampires and modern age unless it’s done exceptionally well, which i’ve yet to find in these books. they just come out as overly quirky and trying too hard to but the com in rom when both are honestly missing.
just like my roommate is a vampire, this was extremely boring and honestly could’ve been made into a short novella. the characters were very bland, and i love a cinnamon roll mmc but this somehow made me hate it??
on top of this the fake dating is so predictable can authors please try something new with the trope. i personally think this was better in ways to the first but i wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with similar book taste to me.
