Great characters, very good chemistry and actual funny parts that made me giggle(which is rare). It was easy and quick to read with a very natural writing style and flow. I really enjoyed the first half but it kind of lost me towards the end, just because it got more and more unrealistic/ uncharacteristic for Alice and the story...like, that would NEVER happen but because it is set in the real world, i expect it to be realistic. Very much enjoyed the setting in China and international school, which I am not much familiar with. Just now realised how clever the title it, with her chinese name being Sun. ALSO the book carried a lecture-type vibe throughout, about social conflict/problems(elite vs. lower class, school scholarships, supporting students from lower income families,...) which i find fine but also personally unnecessary... Overall a solid and enjoyable read! 4/5...more

Characters were so shallow and bland that I couldn't immerse myselfe in the world. I might even say, the book didn't make me care for the characters. Hyeon is a cute girl but that's it. Issues with her dad and all is fine but it doesn't tell anything about her personality. Eojin is brave and loyal but I still don't think I even got to know him. The mother was interesting but because the reader didn't get to experience(!!!) her cold and absent side, her change didn't seem so grand. It felt like she was always that way. Also the crown prince??His character is so unnecessary. He killed someone but other than that, just wasn't important. Felt like a waste to not develop in that direction. Overall it felt as though, too many unimportant, forgettable characters were introduced but not used and the plot was logical but simple and fast paced. Not enough time was spent to deepen characters and make them relavent. Despite the critique, a very quick and enjoyable book to read. And those jade eaves!! If she had mentioned them one more time, i would have lost it!!!
