"Wholeness, she had learned, was not the absence of pain but the ability to hold it."
Edit: I didn’t read the special edition since it’s sold out, and the resale prices are fucking insane. I just changed the edition on ŷ because it’s very pretty.
Don’t expect your typical fantasy here. This isn’t the story of the little guy taking down the big bad villain. If you’re looking for that, you are going to be be let down, but if you approach this book with an open mind, prepare to be absolutely blown away.
M.L. Wang masterfully tackles themes of sexism, motherhood, and responsibility in ways that feel deeply personal and raw. Every single character has a distinct tone and voice, which makes their relationships and conflicts all the more compelling. This isn’t just a tale of good versus evil; it’s a story about the intricate relationships between the characters, each with their own complex motivations and struggles.
And the ending? Perfect. It stays true to the book’s themes, leaving an impact that feels right for the journey we’ve been on.
M.L. Wang just earned herself a loyal fan, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.

"I hear you're strong, stronger even than your father was, and more powerful than any Lesser has ever been. Is it true? Is it, Tau?" "Mother, please." "Answer me, boy. Is it true?" "I can fight," Tau told her, tears springing to his eyes. "And i can kill, Mother. Oh, I can kill."
This maybe better than the first book I fear. But this series maybe just be the best I've ever read...more
Alright, so, I have to admit that the way Sanderson ends every chapter with a cliffhanger was the most5.0 Stars
I am, unfortunately, the Hero of Ages
Alright, so, I have to admit that the way Sanderson ends every chapter with a cliffhanger was the most maddening thing and I mean that in the best way possible. Just when you’re gripping the edge of your seat, he cuts it off and switches to another POV. I have to give him credit: I was hooked till the end because of it.
Let’s talk POVs. Elend and Vin? I hate to say it, but theirs was honestly the slowest one for me. Maybe because their journey felt less exciting compared to the intensity of Sazed or the intrigue of Spook’s arcs. I could almost feel myself shifting in my seat, waiting to get back to the other characters.
And TenSoon! I was dying for more time in his world, like foaming at the mouth level of desperate. His homeland and the kandra culture have such a unique vibe, and every chapter from him brought this richness to the story.
I did have one question tho, why did The Lord Ruler not leave a warning about ruin on a steel plate and place it in the well of Ascension??? Was that so hard? One little note could’ve saved them from so much chaos! But nooo.
Even though the POV shifts threw me off, I didn’t actually dread any of them, and that’s rare in a multi-POV book. There’s usually that one character you want to skip—like they show up and you’re instantly counting pages until the next POV. But here? None of that. Every character added something vital, and there wasn’t a single POV I wasn’t low-key excited to dive back into.
Now, if any story deserves a TV adaptation, it’s this one. I need to see some of these scenes brought to life. Like when Elend witnessed Preservation’s death. The way Sanderson paints those moments is pure magic.
And the ending. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wrap-up. Everything came full circle in a way that felt deeply satisfying.
SPOILERS FROM HERE‼️
The best moments in the book for me:
Elend witnessing Preservation's death:
"Preservation must have been barely coherent. I wonder what Elend would have done had he known that he was in the presence of a dying god—that on that night, he had been the last witness of Preservation’s passing."
Spook's arc. Spook's whole journey was so heartbreaking, and in my opinion, even more inspiring than Vin and Elend's since he was kind of alone, while the latter two had each other. Sazed making him Mistborn was such a nice touch.
“I named you, Spook. I was your friend. Isn’t that enough?
"Wasing the how of wanting the doing."
Elend and Vin crashing the noblemen's ball:
"High Emperor, Lord Elend Venture - And the Empress Vin Venture, Heir of the Survivor, Hero of Ages."
Sazed's arc:
"The religions in my portfolio weren't useless after all. None of them were. They weren't all true. But they all had truth."
These quotes!!!!
"For now, I only wish to make a simple acknowledgement of the woman who held the power just before me. Of all of us who touched it, I feel she was the most worthy."
“You created the thing that can kill you, Ruin, Vin said. “And you just made one huge final mistake. You shouldn’t have killed Elend. You see, he was the only reason I had left to live.
Elend's speech:
“Today, men, I ask of you your lives. [...] “I ask of you your lives, Elend said, his voice echoing, “and your courage. I ask of you your faith, and your honor—your strength, and your compassion. For today, I lead you to die. I will not ask you to welcome this event. I will not insult you by calling it well, or just, or even glorious. But I will say this. Each moment you fight is a gift to those in this cavern. Each second we fight is a second longer that thousands of people can draw breath. Each stroke of the sword, each koloss felled, each breath earned is a victory! It is a person protected for a moment longer, a life extended, an enemy frustrated! There was a brief pause. “In the end, they will kill us, Elend said, his voice loud, ringing in the cavern. “But first, they shall fear us!
The best moments, though? Anytime Ruin spoke to Vin. That eerie, almost hypnotic quality Sanderson gave those conversations they were electric. I lived for those scenes, honestly.
Vin and Elend lying in the flower bed, holding hands in the end??!!

Edit: HELPPP! It's been a month, and this book is still haunting me!! I need a recommendation that gives me the same intensity!!!! I want the revenge, the RAGE, the overlooked underdog, the action—I want EVERYTHING!!! I want the main character to be completely focused on getting their revenge. I want them so determined that they start using methods that are slowly killing them or driving them mad, and they don’t even realize it. I want that INTENSE DOWNWARD SPIRAL. Do you guys know any book that might fit this description?
"The days without difficulty are the days you do not improve"

I loved reading Eryx perspective. I knew he was different from Axios I just didn't know how much until I was reading his inner monologue. I was scared that this would be too similar to the first book but it wasnt. I mean it was similar in the beginning but its starts to get different when Eryx grows a bit distant. I love Theon, Quill, Haden and Leanna I just wish they all had a happy ending.

Orka is just so mother she could murder me and I would just thank her for it tbh. I am so glad for the Glossary at the end of the book coz I would have been lost without it. I loved Orka and Varg the moment I got to their chapters but it took me a couple of chapters to warm up to Elvar but I ended up loving her too. The battle scenes were just so amazing you could tell the author put a lot of research into them
I need more of this authors writing but I don't think am gonna read the second book just yet. I was told it ends in a major cliffhanger so am gonna wait for the third book to come out. In the meantime am gonna read The Faithful and the Fallen series
