Mercy's sense of honor has put her on the wrong side of the local Vampire Queen. Her friends try to protect her, but she decides to get out of town for a little while. Lo and behold, she finds more vampires.
I really love how relatively low powered Mercy is. That as a coyote, she has to fight enemies even a werewolf would best avoid.
This is another fun, exciting installment in a great series. ...more

All of the original characters from I'm not sure if I found this to be an exemplary piece of fan fiction or an incredibly predictable murder mystery. All of the original characters from Pride and Prejudice were so true to form that the story and the mystery were fairly obvious. That said, I adore a good piece of fan fiction. I vastly preferred this novel to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies because I could easily see it as a logical extension of the original tale. It was a fun read. ...more

It makes boring history (The French Revolution? I'm pretty sure I slept through that in two different classes) awesome. By following the life of Alexandre Dumas, the father of Alexandre Dumas, and promising that this was the man who inspired some of that author's greatest literature, the book feels more relevant. Add to that the fact that this Dumas' life did not begin in France, but rather as the son of a slave in Saint-Domingue (Haiti) and one quickly realizes that this is definitely worth reading.
What I always hated most about the French Revolution was how corrupt everything became. In the classroom it seems as though five minutes after spouting philosophy about equality for everyone those same philosophers started murdering fellow citizens with little provocation and waging war throughout Europe. Dumas, on the other hand, was a true revolutionary. As a black man he was grateful for, and believed deeply in, those founding principles of equality and fraternity. It didn't work out well for him (particularly the part where he didn't get along well with Napoleon), but it makes him an excellent character to follow.
I also just like a good book about a soldier. Whether or not the battles Dumas fought were just or wise (Egypt, I'm looking at you), he was an impressive man. This book is full of feats of strength, daring, and dueling. Moreover, though he could have claimed an aristocratic title were that not made difficult by his African descent, Dumas enlisted as a common dragoon and became a great general. That's a good story.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes history, Alexandre Dumas, or good books. ...more

Gaara comes back in this chapter, and you almost ruined everything. Really? Lee is a natural master of the "Potion Punch"? There is a character in this book that rips out his own spine and uses it as a sword before dying brutally, and you're afraid to call a style "Drunken Master"? I expect better.
